Hey guys, how it going? Just looking for some advice on how to start dreads using the natural method or "neglect". I've been wanting dreads for months but am finally going to start. I chose to go with the natural method because it seems like most people who have had dreads for years wish they could have started natural, plus it seems more satisfying. Anywho, How often should I was my hair? And when i do wash it should i use a mixture of sea salt/lemon juice/water? Do i literally just do nothing to my hair? just let it be and itll turn into locks? There's not much detail about this process. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot!
well first off there is a thread at the first page of this forum here that will give you all the answers that you are looking for on dreads in general.. look there and will save a buncha folks a bunch a typing... as far as just letting them dread naturally without back combing etc,,,, just let them do there thing and rip them a couple few times a week and be prepared for hella messes on your head for a while.... they get wackylike outta control for a good while... then fix them selves and become beautiful dreads.... natural shampoos and no conditioners until they are good n mature n yer on yer way
yeaprety much what she said but i'll expand on it a bit wash with broners as needed, usualy weekly is good..towel dry or just shake it out & let it go, ..a good time to do a lil seperatin is right about when its nearly dry, just feel around for clumps that seem to wanna be together, & pull them apart from eachother (some rippin hair near the roots especialy is normal)..u can twist or just play with these clumps all u wanna..as they start to become lil more distinct from eachother, u can add a fewbeads if u want but isnt needed..salt sprays good but 1st month maybe only do it every other week, & oncea month or so after..lemmon juice id skip unless your determined to go blond in the process it acts just like peroxide & reacts to heat & sun to bleach the hair. alittlealoe gell sparingly & prefferably diluted can help too at 1st & a good tam can help as well the most important step, in fact the only neded step in natural method is in seperating the clumps as they knot to avoid 1 massive dread u should most likely see the 1st dread babies startin in bout 3 weeks, but everyones different
