does anyone know any cool day trips from Amsterdam? my wife & I are going for a week in December & are looking for a day trip or two out of Amsterdam. HOw is Brussels Belgium? anyonne been? how long is the train ride? is there a direct route from a-dam? thanx in advance. I am sure you will see other posts from me in the near future.
There is a direct train route to Brussels. I would have to check on the exact time for you, but I believe it's around 2.5 hours. Another good tip would be Antwerp, also in Belgium. It's a little closer to Amsterdam, there is a direct connection too, and the city is a very nice visit. Hope I got you started on track here, I'm sure other people will contribute more information and tips!
Maybe a weird suggestion, but why not London? It's a 20 minute flight from Schiphol airport and if you get a ticket from either RyanAir or sth like that it'll probably cost equal or less as a trainticket to Belgium (if you're going by TGV that is).. Also, there are nice things to do in the Netherlands as well.. you could go to Volendam, which is very close to Amsterdam (there are direct buslines and also touristic daytrips).. it's a small village known for it's typical cute architecture (amongst other things *winks to MonoMike*).. it's like an open air museum. Ah well.. really depends on what you're looking for.
If you're looking for that, a trip to Urk would be very advisable too Some other tips to go and see in the Netherlands: - Maastricht: lovely city in the utmost south of the Netherlands. I love the atmosphere there, it differs from almost any other Dutch city - Texel: we have islands too you know. While it may not prove to be very thrilling, Texel has beautiful nature, is not far away from Amsterdam and great for taking bicycle trips if that's your kind of thing. And it's not crowded with American tourists, so you might get special treatment from the locals It would help us if you told what you like to do. Visit a city, admire art & culture, become one with nature ... help us to help you!
anyone know how long it takes to get to southern france from Amsterdam? I am going in November and thinking about heading down to the Nice/Monaco area but not sure if I will have enough time to go that far. How about germany like berlin or other cool cities in germany, how long will a train take there?
i think that smiley face next to "Urk" is because its a small mecca for overly conservative christianity........which just screams vacation hotspot
brussels is a great city esp if you like to eat and drink, brussels has the second best restaurants to paris in mainland euro and plenty of drinking establishments but a lot have membership policies which is usually go in and pay a small fee,it sounds odd but worth it as lots of places are happening, getting around is easy wioth both metro and trams.the grand place is the big draw a cultural gothic square with bars but expensive. also mannequin pis is touristy but nothing special. its 2 and a half hours from adam and a nice ride. you can stop at the sky scrapers of roterdam, idont personly like the city its as far away from the atmos of adam as you can get,a bit frightening!
Went to paris for a day by train, it was a bit pricey but we waited to go the day of.. if we had gotten tickets in advance it would have been alot cheaper. it was a 4 hr trip. IMO most people we met in paris were rude, although we did meet some very nice folks there also. overall it was a nice experiance other than the 4 of us were very hung over from the night before.
I say rent a bike and ride! Go west to Haarlem, south to Leiden, Southwest to Utrecht. You can always take a train back.
No arguements there. I'm counting on your biking experience to make the "train back" option happen if necessary. Bikes Kick Ass... sometimes literally. LOL! Beware of Pigs On Bikes 2007!
By train or by plane? Nice i think would be about 8 hours by train. Berlin is 6 hours, but Cologne for example is only 2,5.
