I liked it, personally. =) Wasn't exactly how I pictured the sixties, but the music was good, no match for the original Beatles versions of the songs, and the plot was nice.
this movie was crap, i'm sorry if you liked it because I think that it could have been great but in attempting grandness it falls flat on its face. The storyline was predictable and trite, there was no need for most of the ensemble characters(like Prudence) and pretty much all of them are underdeveloped. People need to stop retooling Beatles song and just Let it Be. Some of the songs are musical abortions while others are passable the soul of the beatles does not come through conveyed solidly enough. the only plus was Jim sturgess, every time he sang i wanted to fuck him
The movie looked so good and i wanted to see it so bad. Guess what....i couldnt watch the whole thing. Some of the singing was shit. I agree with PsychosisDiagnosis this movie is CRAP!
My family went to see it, with my girlfriend and a couple of my brother's friends. On the way home, my mom asked the question: "Of those of you in the car who have taken psychedelics, how did that movie compare with the real thing?" What an awkward conversation to have with my mother. Anyway, the movie itself wasn't great. But I loved Eddie Izzard and Bono. And Joe Cocker as a pimp is amazing.
I thought theatrically it was wonderful and psychedelic and fun to trip off of and stuff but I'd rather not listen to those awful interpretations of Beatles songs. I strongly disliked "Jude"'s interpretation of Revolution. But hey, it was better than a lot of those other movies out these days.
I left in the middle of it... I hated it, it was such a horrible representation of those very important people of the 60's. Very contrived... I really don't understand how anyone can watch it
oh wow. ever since i heard about it in like july i've wanted to see it. reading how most people believe its a dissapointment is a big let down. oh well, i'll still watch it anyways! :]
Did ANYONE like it? I didn't think it was that bad, I have very low expectations of it so it was better than I thought it was going to be but I didn't love it or anything. I was also making out during part of it so that might have had an impression on my opinion
yes i loved it my friend has it and we watched it about 7 times now. it probally one of the best movies ive ever seen. my favorite siene is probally the song "with a little help from my friends
i agreed to go see it. i fell asleep early into the movie. i guess that says something; either about me, the movie or, both of us.
i loved it! am i the only person in here who really likes this movie? oh well... i generally like the movies most people hate, and hate the ones everyone else loves. haha
I enjoyed it. I have always been a big Beatles fan so I know I would have liked it just for the music........even though I knew the songs themselves would be rendered differently. I have to say I liked the first part of the movie much more then the second half, except for the very ending. It was difficult seeing again all the violence and dispair of the late 60's. Fortunately the movie did end on a positive note.
I loved it!!!Really great movie and they made some really cool cover songs...and Dana Fuchs man, she is amazing
It is a really good portrayal of the meanings of the songs though, for example, when they did "I Want You (She's So Heavy) ...that was pretty good. But of course they are no match. They did sing pretty damn good though. It's actually my favourite movie of all time. (At this moment)
In general I really liked it, with one or two major problems. It seriously zapped the nostalgia nerve for me. I heard the Beatles constantly growing up with my hippy parents while we lived in & out of the Village in the late 60s/early 70s...talk about imprinting...so the whole motif of a progressive Beatles soundtrack to young New Yorkers lives as they grow up and deal with the world gone wild & weird was like the musical version of my lost childhood memories I (and my parents) had forgotten. It felt fairly accurate all the way through. I was a impressionable little kid bouncing around those dancing hippy days...I'll tell ya folks, young who never knew as well as old who lost their memories already...everyday life did in fact tend to feel like big a musical production back then I loved the renditions and the psychedelic videos of the songs, the cast were all great singers, though the acting was kinda stilted, and there were some interesting casting statements happening. ...funny they had a lead character who looks and sounds like Paul but all other Beatles are missing...I thought they should have done even more trippy stuff, but it seems they were confused about what they wanted to say about psychedelic culture of the time, like Lucy/Sky being at at the end credits among other things. In fact my main dissapointment was how they portrayed 'Dr Geary' of the 'League of Spiritual Deliverance'...Bono as Dr Robert was great, he had the Kesey groove going, his voice was huge and the whole salon to bus trip scenes are brilliant. But when Dr Geary wont meet Dr Robert its kinda messed up with Geary hiding in the turret of the League pond house there... kind of a lame way to portray the man and his role, especially when they had all these other direct and subtle references from Tims whole scene. I mean, WTF? they drive from the Village where Tim did stuff for years to Millbrook/the League house, the face on the roof is straight off Millbrook, meanwhile its Bono/Kesey whos called Dr Robert, when Im pretty sure Dr Robert was a character in Aldous Huxleys book Island and Huxley was Tims hero, and Dr Robert also says "Transcend the Bullshit" which is pretty much a ripoff of Millbrook resident Art Kleps' "Victory over horseshit"...OK so one stupid 90s british documentary said Leary turned Kesey away and they never met but the writers obviously read Electric Kool Aid Acid test which tells us they met, thats Cassidy driving that bus in the film and there are pics of Tim and Cassidy hanging out on the bus....and DrGeary just pulls the shades down?? Weird. Then Eddie Izzard appears as Mr Kite and who the hell would that be? Michael Hollingshead maybe? Turn On Tune In Switch off Switch on and Explode??? Yeahhhh OK. Its a subtle swipe at Tim isnt it? I was sort of surprised, no matter what insanity the guy may or may not have pulled in Life he had a powerful influence give him a break. Maybe it was a statement from Paul or whoever produced the film I dont know. I liked everything else.
Ive seen this movie so many times...I really like it. As a "Beatles musical" and as a movie...way better with drugs.
