I get ice cream cravings about 4-5 times per year, but my tummy can NOT handle it - so I tend to pick up a nice vegan alternate instead. Usually I will get something by Rice Dream or Purely Decadent, but the other day I was craving vanilla & found some tofutti at my "regular" grocery store. How cool, I thought, not to have to stop at a second store for once!

Now I am sitting here, absolutely clogged up with congestion. Honestly, I think I might as well have eaten the ice cream with how my upper-body is responding. I'd think it's seasonal allergies, but I am NOT all sniffly-sneezy and my eyes aren't itchy, so that's not terribly likely. I'd think perhaps it was cross-contamination with wheat somehow, except that usually brings about a completely different reaction as well. And the only new food I've tried in the past MONTH is this tofutti.

I do eat tofu, alternate between soy & almond milk, and do eat shelled soybeans so I know my body doesn't have a problem with tofu - or soy, in general. Has anyone else experienced this though? At this point it looks like I've found one additional food to avoid, but I'd love to know what specifically I'm avoiding here - ingredient wise, if anyone has any clues.

It's supposed to be - I thought of that too, but this is NOT my typical "glutened" reaction.

Honestly, it's the same congested symptoms I would have had if I'd eaten dairy ice cream, without the tummy issues. Really weird. And of course the next day I was feeling much better.

I'm gonna try it one more time in about a month, just in case it was some sort of coincidence with seasonal allergies or something else wholly related. The symptoms aren't so bad that I can't try to nail this one down, just a bit irritating.

It's Parve. Is that the "good" one, or the "just okay" one? I'd thought that was the one that meant dairy hadn't been anywhere near it.
