Last Sunday while darting barefoot across a busy intersection, I saw my barefoot dreams for 2012 come to a crashing halt as I managed to fracture and dislocate one of the bones in my right foot as I went to land on the sidewalk. I read somewhere before that a one mile run can produce 100 tons of pressure on the foot. Unfortunately I took the blunt of the impact just above the ball of my foot causing my foot to deploy like an airbag and swell up in about two seconds flat. As the sixties television character Maxwell Smart would say, "Missed it by that much." Unfortunately I'll have to go under the knife when the swelling subsides and will be on the disabled list for the next six to eight weeks. Boo. I must confess that I am scary on crutches. I took my chances earlier in the day strolling barefoot into CVS. Despite the no bare feet sticker on the door no one seemed to notice. I also took my chances at Seven/Eleven and Store 24 and had no problems there also.
It's sad, isn't it. I screwed up my feet barefooting last early summer. Ramped up my bf distance walking too fast. Rest of the summer I had to wear shoes if I was going any distance. It was sad.
Cruthces get easy with a bit of practice. Trust me - I injured my left foot 3 1/2 years ago and it never healed properly, then two years ago it got crushed in the earthquake here. Only now does it look like there might be a fix coming. Since the first injury I have been on crutches more than not. I really prefer walking on my crutches with my good foot bare. I feel much more secure on them whne I can feel the ground under a bare sole. Occasionally I would go shirtless as well, then a while back I really made a mess of the skin under my arms from the crutches and after a conversation with the nurse at my dr's she thought the best fix was to take the rubber pads off the top of the crutches, get rid of my shirt and with just the plastic on the top of them against bare skin that would fix the problem! It works, and a pair of crutches and in my case a cast on my leg are the ultimate excuse to go anywhere barefoot and bare chested. Good luck and don't let this stop you going barefoot. Now is your ideal chance to try it 24/7!
I even made the TV news when I was at the medical centre the next day getting my cast checked and they were looking for people to interview with earthquake injuries. I got woken up (the earthquake was at 4.30am) by the chest of drawers faling over, landing on the end of the bed and crushing my already damaged foot.
yeah, same here. I don't recall you ever saying just how you ended up in crutches. man, sorry to hear about that bad run of luck. I hope you are able to get things resolved and back to your old self. peace, bob
