I enjoy it but I've only had like 2 or 3 different brands and I couldn't tell you what they were. I don't get it frequently because it's expensive stuff.
For sure, it cost me over $200. for a combo of large bottle of green absinthe, and smaller bottle of red back '06. To get it here from Czech Republic it had to come through Canada. And yes I saw the little fairy, beautiful! But only for a couple of seconds. It vanished quicker than Tinkerbell! Man I got hammered on that stuff.
I bought a bottle of Hills Absinthe From Prague that I really Liked But it got terrible reviews They have been making it for Ninety years Though ??
It was a good time. Got a stomachache though. I learned later that it's common so I would start slowing down after 3 drinks from then on.
I can't remember where I heard drinking that stuff will make you insane. is that the stuff that is a thick, syrupy licorace flavored thing? If so, I may have tasted it once and did not care for it.
I usually get Grande though I got Mansinthe once. I was in a wine making store and picked up some wormwood to see if I could make a heftier version. So I soaked 2 tablespoons of wormwood chips in 2 cups of absinthe. In a week it was too dark to see through. After a month I tried it. It tasted like licking a used asphalt ash tray, it was so horrible, an acre of sugar cubes wasn't going to tame it. After choking down 3 drinks, I was feeling pretty smashed and taking nonsense (according to Jane, my wife). The mason jar is still on the shelf in a dark cabinet. I refer to it as the Black Fairy to guests after they have had a regular absinthe drink. Few are willing to try it after a taste.
