About Last Night Movie Blurb by Shale February 16, 2014 Last night I watched my DVD of the 1986 version of this movie, just to get a comparison of this modern reimagining. Glad it was fresh in my mind, because even tho it told the same story, and used some of the same lines from the earlier movie, this one has a few differences. Mainly, instead of the principle characters being white they are mostly black and instead of being in Chicago they are in Los Angeles. Also, something I disliked about the '86 movie were the two best friends of Debbie and Danny. That was Jim Belushi's character Bernie and Elizabeth Perkins' character Joan. I hated both of them and their jealous interference in their friends' lives. It was out of my realm of reality because I would not have countenanced anyone intruding upon my life decisions like that. Maybe why I have been mostly a loner all my life and just do not understand the 'frat' mindset. Anyhow, those characters are less obtrusive here and their banter between each other more playful than hateful. OK, for those of you who have not seen the original movie here's the story (and differences) of the new one. Danny (Michael Ealy) and his co-worker Bernie (Kevin Hart) are also best fiend. Danny & Bernie at the Bar They meet up at a club where Bernie introduces him to his new squeeze Joan (Regina Hall) and her roommate and BFF Debbie (Joy Bryant). Bernie and Joan get drunk and are hot to trot and do so in the ladies room, leaving the more reserved Debbie and Danny to get acquainted at the booth. As Danny is walking Debbie out, they end up in each others arms and eventually in his apartment for a one-nighter (been there done that). Danny & Debbie She doesn't want a committed relationship and starts to sneak out in the morning but they had so much fun last night, they do it again (and again and again). Danny is still trying to escape from the damage done by Alison (Paula Patton) an ex, so he is also non-committal. However, after so many sleepovers, Danny gives Debbie a key to his apartment and they start becoming a couple. As is often the case, giving up those little personal freedoms to check in with the other half has its ruf spots, but they go on doing things as a couple, even indulging Danny his baseball obsession. Danny & Debbie at the Ball Park Oh, mustn't forget Bernie and Joan. They start out doing each other on a regular basis, with many mishaps that happen between amorous ppl from time to time as they try different kinks clumsily. (Yeah, I've hurt myself in ruf sex - but it's a good hurt). Joan & Bernie Eventually, they have a falling out, which makes things more difficult for their friends Danny and Debbie who keep bringing them together at various events. Before long, Danny and Debbie also split up and it looks pretty final but this is a formulaic romantic drama, where disparate ppl meet, fall in love, have great 'insurmountable' problems and split up - and yet, you know they just have to get back together before the two hours are up. If you have seen the original film, you know the story ran somewhat like this, only this movie is a lot lighter with more comedic moments delivered by Regina Hall and Kevin Hart. While I enjoyed the Rob Lowe-Demi Moore movie (a lot more sensual, nude, love scenes) I think I enjoy this one more.
There was a scene in this movie that kinda hit home for me. Joan is a dental hygienist and in one of her trysts with Bernie she puts him in the chair and does a cleaning as part of their foreplay. Bernie & Joan on Dental Chair I have long felt that no one is more intimate than your dental hygienist. I am acutely aware when they crawl into my mouth that they are seeing a part of me not seen by anyone else. Lovers may see you naked, see those hidden things not seen by most ppl, but no one touches you more intimately than that person with the mirrors and picks probing around in your mouth.
May also happen that your hygienist is young and hot, and while getting the job done she will keep rubbing seriously huge tits over your face for a good part of the time. albeit this may or may not be their standard practice to lure male patients in, hell, that's a bonus. now that i'm thinking about this , maybe time's just back right again for some mouth scrubbing. oh, yes, and then she will enjoy the secrets of my molar cusps too.
