I have a question. not to totally piss of everyone, but why do the hippies take the side of pro-choice in the abortion issue. i know it's a right women should have, but in a sense, it is murder. and i've seen people in this thread stick up for prisoners, animals, and plants lives. but we are killing innocent babies, who have no voice or speak in their lives. i think it is time women stop having unprotected sex and relying on abortion to solve their problems. it is time they take responsibility for other living thing's lives.

again, i'm not saying all women have unprotected sex. sometime's it is just an accident, and sometimes it is the man's fault.

Well I personally don't have the double standard. I am pro-choice, and pro death penalty. But I see what you are saying. I don't know how anyone can be pro-life and for the death penalty, or pro-choice and against the death penalty. Politics is a bitch, ain't it?

I personally don't see a partially formed fetus as a human being. Babies aren't being killed. Babies are born. Fetuses are being killed. But that's semantics. Many times children would be a burden that the parents would not be able to live with economially, socially, emotionally, or it might be dangerous just for the woman to have it. Abortion shouldn't be used as a regular form of birth control, but sometimes it's necessary.

Also, this is totally a women's issue, and I don't think all these white male politicians should be able to make the rules about it. It's like taxation without representation, but worse.

there is a lot of flip-flopping on both sides, liberals and conservatives. at least your beliefs make sense, and don't outrule the other. bush is a flip-flopper and a lot of the people on this forum are also flip-floppers. i kno it is a right women should have the right to, but morally, i would not go with abortion unless it is a special case. kudos on being independent in your beliefs.

that is what i believe, abortion should not be overused, except in special cases, like a health issue or if they are economically unable to support a baby.

When abortion was illegal, women went to people that had no idea what they were doing to have their abortion, that lead to alot of deaths thus allowing women to have a trained professional with the proper equipment perform abortion is more logical then having women's boyfreinds tring to do with a coat hanger.

Thus abortion saves more lives then it takes away.

that is a pretty good point. this is overlooked a lot when the conservatives are arguing to outlaw abortion. the same can be said the illegal issue in America. people are still going to want the stuff, so if they're gonna get the stuff, at least make the trip safe so they don't get hurt doing it.

Because they don't think for themselves, just go along with whatever "hippies" are supposed to believe in.

No one has the right to kill another person.

You can omit the "but in a sense".

    Again, not thinking.

    Yes.

Because they believe people on death row are guilty, whereas babies are obviously innocent. I would be for the death penalty if it were fool-proof, but since it is not, innocent people die and therefore I cannot condone it.

The most absurd argument. Who are you to judge what qualifies as a "human being"? Take a science class.

Awww, too bad..... Don't make me sick. If you are not prepared to raise a child, DON'T GET PREGNANT!
Ever hear of adoption?! Good God.

One could just as easily say the same thing to you. What makes YOU the authority on what is a human being?

I've taken plenty, and I've never seen any evidence in any science class that a fetus has the characteristics I would define as unmistakably human. In fact, I've seen evidence to the contrary.

Try dealing with facts, rather than pure conjecture:

    Kandahar,

If unborn babies aren't human, what form of life are they? At what point do they transform into human beings, and how would you scientifically describe this alleged metamorphosis?

Ignoring the obvious fact that you can't have accurate statistics of death of the mother caused by illegal abortions since they are illegal and deaths would be recorded as murder since the establisment that did the abortion would just dump the body, are you suggesting a unborn life is equal to that of a adult? In my mind a unborn life is only equal to that of live stock that we slauter to feed our selfs as it has no more awarness of its existance therefore you need to kill alot of unborns to equal the death of one adult.

Also to the universe there is no difference between us and the cow we eat as we are equally insignifiant to the universe therefore the question of the value of human life is only important to us humans that have the intellect to ponder such things.

One could say it's hypocritical for hippies to be pro-choice, just as one could say its hypocritical for hippies to eat meat.

I'm not a hippy however. But I am Pro-choice, and I am a vegetarian. I'm also for the death penalty. A lot of people don't support either the death penalty or abortion until these matter actually *hit close to home*

I used to be on both sides of the death penalty issue. I used to be both for it and against it. I thought it might be more torture for one to live out their life behind bars, but I also thought some people truly deserved to die. But then the whole Carlie Brucia kidnapping happened. I didn't know her personally, but she went to my shool and my friend knew her. my friend was best friends with carlie, and was even hanging out with her the day that Carlie was kidnapped. I saw the pain that my friend went through. We had a poetry booklet due in our english class, and we were allowed to read as many poems as we wanted from our poetry books, as long as we read at least one. When my friend's turn came, all of her poems were about Carlie and Joseph P. Smith (her kidnapper).
I can vaguely remember one of her poems she read which almost made her cry. It went something like
"You took my best friend you *bleep* *bleep* *bleep, I hope you *bleep* *bleep* *bleep*"
When a crazy middle aged dirt-bag fucker kidnaps, rapes, and murders a little girl, and then leaves her small lifeless body behind a church, I don't think that he should be allowed to live at all. Someone as vile as that, someone who is a pure example of what "scum of the earth" truly is, should not be allowed the opportunity to further live any more. He is a waste of oxygen, the purest form of evil, and deserves to die.

Sorry, kind of went off topic...
But, I'm just saying that ones opinion on such issues can change a lot when something happens to them, or to someone they know.

I do not believe that a woman should be forced to have a child she doesn't want. I've said this before, and I'll say it again: It's not only unfair to the mother, but it is unfair to the potential child. The world is way too fucking over-populated as it is.
I do not count a human being as a human being until it is outside the womb and living on it's own.
Someone onced told me to ask my mother if it was worth it to have me. Truth is, if she had gotten an abortion, I wouldn't have cared as I would not have existed to care. Although, I was actually *planned* ...

Others say to not have sex unless you're ready to have a child. It's human nature to want to have sex but not want to have a child, therefore someone will always be having sex whether or not they want to get pregnant. They may use protection, but accidents happen. And some accidents, no matter how minor they are, can severely screw up someone's life.

    well, there ya have it..

Except that NARAL co-founder Bernard Nathanson was a leading abortionist prior to Roe v. Wade, and he has confessed that the alleged maternal death rates invoked by him and fellow pro-abortion activists at the time were total fabrications.

I realize that a mechanistic worldview provides no objective basis for valuing human life. The legalization of abortion (and subsequent decline in medical ethics, i.e. euthanasia, cloning, etc.) is a grim reflection of this regrettable paradigm shift.
