jan michael jiere (or however his name was spelled. electronic musician) and the sf authors jerry pournelle, jo clayton, john varley, jack vance, james h schmitz. (none entirely specific to the 80s, but that was the decade i most assciate with them, though actually the 70s and even the 60s too. there's just not that much i associate with the 80s specifically. other then computers powerful enough to actually do anything becoming affordable, i know i had at least one author who's last name began with a "j", but i can't seem to remember who they were.)
