It touched 2 wires at the same time and got BBQ'd. Unfortunately, he is still hanging there.

Maybe the storm we are supposed to get will knock him down.

    I'll keep you posted. :coffee:

    aww...poor thing.

I hope it was not a mommy as here there is a huge problem with orphan squirrels and they are asking people if the can to foster them.

^ I wanna move to Canada!!

But I can't get me a pet squirrel until I'm all grown up.

Also, I've watched squirrels run back and forth on telephone wires all my life. I thought they had evolved rubber on their feet or something. Hearing that one took it makes the world make a little bit more sense.

My sister is fostering one. It is the cutest little thing. I am not sure about moving here, do you want to be adopted? :)

    ^ I'm a Duck, silly, not a squirrel!

I'm not sure about moving there either, but if a government here was trying to do a squirrel fostering program, they'd be laughed at.

Poor things are just cute pigeons to most of us.

Well they are cleaning Ducks in your country, are they not! :)

Here it is a municipal effort but those shelters do receive provincial money so I guess I am funding that mission. Perhaps it is better spent there than on many other things. :)

In our country people would never mention taxes in a sentence that wasn't a complaint!

Then again, I suppose you didn't use the word, either =P

it's worse when you live among a lot of ignoramuses and conservatives. where i live, most people have absolutely no clue what they mean when they claim we're becoming a 'socialist nation'. bunch of fucking ayn rand disciples or something, i swear.

:D Taxes are just a part of life. If I don't earn then I don't pay. I rather like earning so pay I do. I actually get more ticked about some of the idiocy of distribution of coffers rather than actually having to pay taxes.

Telephone/cable wires don't shock people. Power lines and mostly transformers do.

Yeah, bad habit to call them all telephone wires. Thanks though =)

its just the upper ones that feed the transformers that are bad...the lower ones coming to the house are really not dangerous at all

Wires themselves are not dangerous.. Only when your completing a ground will the electric pass through you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgrN0fyDRsQ"]YouTube- Helicopter Powerline Danger Awesome Amazing

the helicopter is not completing the circuity, the man is actually touching the wires with a rod and is fully charged with all the energy and capacitive currents where the helicopter is one capacitor plate, and the earth is the other plate. there is corona-discharge from sharp metal edges on the helicopter, caused by high voltage..

If a helicopter is hovering next to a 500KV power line, and the man on the helicopter reaches out to touch the line, then the entire helicopter charges to 500,000 volts. It might take many milliamperes to do this, and since it's AC, then the helicopter is rapidly charged to positive voltage and then to negative. Just before contact is made, there will be an electrical arc with many mA flowing (so it's flaming hot, just like a Jacob's Ladder arc.) And even after the helicopter is connected to the power line, there will be mA of current at low voltage. Better not use your hand to connect to the power line, since a shock with a few mA of 60Hz AC feels quite horrible (although it might not be enough to kill you or anything.)..

But also, when the helicopter connects to the 500,000V power line, all its sharp edges start spewing out "saint elmo's fire" into the air. In other words, the air itself becomes a resistor, and there is a current path from the tips of the rotors, through the air, and finally to the distant ground (or more likely it goes to other nearby cables in the 3-phase power lines.)..
