I have an idea.... I plan on making bracelets with like glass beads and silver dog and cat charms and when I'm at craft shows I want to sell them for like 5$ and 100% of the money will go to the A.S.P.C.A. ( The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) I'm a huge animal rights activist and I want to do something, I also plan to put out a jar so people can just donate even if it's just change, and then make fliers explaining the cause and what their money will be going towards and the address so if they feel weird giving me money they can donate directly to the charity. I want to do this sooooo bad do you think people will want to help? I thought it was a good idea what do you think? please please please take my idea and do this this in your area too. they need all the help they can get. much love always, Hollie*
i love that idea~ i'll buy one! a couple of years back i raised some money for the humane society....had over $400 raised and with one day left untill turn in some asshole stole it. it was labeled "humane society funds" as well so with one day left i actually felt like such shit about it and i spent the day going around to neighborhoods and trying to raise money door to door....only made $70 that way. i guess people didnt trust this girl in hippy clothes knocking on their door asking for money.
^^ speaking of people not trusting a girl in hippy clothes asking for money... how much money do you think you'll raise? do you live in an area where someone might donate a large chunk of money? you might want to look into the non-profit/tax side of this... i know it's a huge annoyance, but it might be worth it. people might be more inclined to donate money (in check form) if there's a tax write-off code. it might make you look more legit and trustworthy if you're able to prove that the money really will make it to charity (in cases of cash). then again, since it's for the aspca, they might have something established already that you could use. they might have certain guidelines they'd want you to follow, but i'm sure it's nothing outlandish. if this works real well, are you going to be able to afford to keep buying beads and charms and sting? i don't think it would be negative if all of your profits went to charity, and some of the money went to cover the costs of the beads... in the long run, it could add up. depends on how elaborate you make 'em and all, i guess. it might increase the longevity of your project. you've got an awesome idea. good luck!!!
that's a really great idea, about making it more legit and all, Do you know how to go about doing that? and I'll probablly be able to afford to keep making them, I'm making clothes and glass art too so I'll manage, I'll feel like I'm donating too by using my own money to make them. and I'll post some pics when I'm done so people on here can buy them too. thank you everyone for all your comments I'm really excited about doing this. much love always, Hollie*
i'm not sure how you'd go about proving it's legit. it might be something simple, though. you could probably contact the aspca, tell them that you're going do this for them, and see what they say. they might be able to list you as a volunteer fundraiser, and you could just have people call them if they need verification or something. i'm sure the aspca has all their non-profit/tax deduction stuff in line, and they could just add you on to that. they might even hook you up with one of those standard plastic yellow donation dog things, or maybe some hand-outs and flyers about adoptions, volunteering, spay/neutering, etc, to hand out to people who stop by your booth. you could also get little receipt books, so people can have proof of the tax write-off. also, if you're listed with them as a volunteer, you can put the volunteer experience on a resume or something, too. but anyway, this is a really awesome idea you have, and i'd totally be down for buying one of your bracelets. good luck!!
