"If I (God) bring you to it, I will bring you through it." Isn't that so comforting and beautiful? I just wanted to share it with you, and hope it touches you too. :)

It is beautifull. Just as He says He will never place a burden upon us that He will not carry for us. Isn't God wonderfull? I wish I could give Him the love that He has given me.

Eh, I feel nothing from that because I'm an Atheist. But I hope it inspires other people. ;)

I'm also an atheist. The mutant spawn of a Buddhist and Catholic got into the Nietzsche again... oh well. Never cared much for metaphysics, I've always felt that a philosophy that's goal is the comfort of the masses might very well attain that, but will never reach any reasonable conclusion about the universe. Even so, I won't dispute the possibility of a metaphysical world, but in my opinion I think that it is the product of a culture seeking happiness, not truth. I apologize if this sounds rude; I really am glad that you find that quote inspiring and wish you all the best in your philosophical shenanigans.

No, not rude at all. You're just expressing your opinion, and quite respectfully too. :) It does make sense what you're saying, and I think that much of the Christian scripture is taken out of context, twisted by the ignorance of the fact that it was written by humans, and is men's perception of God, and thus has to have some faults, even if it began perfect.

As for me, I try to love God always, with heart, soul and strength, like the Shema. Which is harder than it seems.

Mary, the Bible does not teach that happiness is found here on this world.
The only thing I found offensive in your post was your devilish need to refer to our beliefs as "shenanigans". Was it really needed and why did you choose to insult? When was the last time a Christian on this board assaulted you for your beliefs - or worse yet, tried to demean them by calling them "shenanigans"?

...." much of the Christian scripture is taken out of context, twisted by the ignorance of the fact that it was written by humans, and is men's perception of God, and thus has to have some faults, even if it began perfect."

Sunfree, I suspect that you are not Christian and have very little knowledge about the teachings of Christianity. So from where do you gain the power to make this derogatory statement?

Well, actually, I am Christian. I even alluded to the Shema in Deuteronomy at the bottom of my post. This is the whole verse: "Hear me o people of Israel! The Lord our God is our only lord. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength."

Don't worry, I'm not trying to "prove" my faith by quoting scripture at you. I don't feel that I have to have some sort of power, either, to look at something objectively. I don't mean to disrespect the bible, or your beliefs, I just mean that I don't worship the book; I worship God. I said that though the word has in a few places been twisted both at the time it was written, and the way we hear and act on it now, that it began perfect. The Bible is an extremely important tool through which we can learn and use, still, you can't deny that it was written by men. There were thousands of pages of scripture, hundreds of other gospels, that were all up for the running to be included, but due to politics and whatnot, was excluded. There could have been vast differences in the way it turned out.
What I mean to say is, I trust God above the bible when it comes down to it.

    By the way, thanks Soulrebel.

    no problem:)

i have a question tho, which takes this thread more off topic than it has been. I would like to believe in God, and I do, somewhat. But, my ex gurlfriend who is very religious, says I can't believe in him and accept him into my life if I believe in evolution, and I don't think premarital sex is wrong, and I just dont agree with most of the bible. I dont see how not agreeing with the bible prohibits me from believing in God. Any advice? or anything....

There are many different beliefs out there, that people obtain, that have different sorts of gods, numerous, or maybe only one.

The way I look at it...is that there is a spirit, god, mother nature, etc, existing. Whether there is one or numerous...I havnt really decided for myself yet...though if there are numerous, I think they are all connected in some form.

I find that while observing most religions and sets of beliefs, they have alot of the same principles, and all have a spirit in the sky of some sort.

So if you do believe in a god, or simply want to, don't limit yourself to only one set of belief. Expand your horizons, you may find something you dig..

Yeah, I believe that there is a different path for everyone; you can't achieve you're own understanding if you only follow someone else's plan your entire life, you know?

Whether you call it God, or the Great Spirit, or Goddess, or whatever, it's still the same one spirit that connects us all...you can't change that just by referring to it by a different world. There isn't a "just Christian God," there is God of everything and for everyone. Doesn't make sense that God would reveal himself in different ways to cultures and people who look at life in totally polar manners, in order to reach everyone?

Everyone hears in different ways, but everyone can hear, if you find the right thing to listen to.
