actually, i am doing it naturally.. and it seems really frustrating when sometime after washing my hair just with baking soda and salt solution for 9 or so months now, some of the locked one's fell out.. i think its the surface/smoothness{so hardcore smooth, im really pissed off about it!} of my hair which makes it hard for them to combine and knot.. is there anyway i could like make it matte? ps. i even do salt sprays on a weekly basis.. thanks for the help.. I AM TELLING YOU.. I HAVE AVERY SMOOTH HAIR(LIKE THOSE SEEN ON SHITTY TV ADS) i even consider myself perming my hair.. sheesh.. what a bullshit smooth hair.. i know patience is the key.. but you won't think about it after being on my shoes.. 9 + months with ... agh! frustrating really.. anyway..im not rushing things.. im just so pissed off about some loose hair when its winding up to my face.. so i want it to be all formed now..
when i was using my dads tea tree shampoo to try and combat my dandruff, i put my palm flat against the side of my head and rubbed it in a circular motion and my hair tangled/matted up quite a bit.. but it was hair not dreads maybe do a similar thing, or use something woollen to create the friction?
How long's your hair? If it's not so long that could be maybe why you're not seeing so much progress. If your dead set on not backcombing/twist rip etc, I can't give you much more help other than just hang in there, try to forget you're dreading your hair and just let your hair get longer. I totally sympathise with you though, my hair was really smooth and soft, not very dread suitable. Have you been wearing a wool hat much at all? That might help a bit. If you're up for it maybe post some pics. I wouldn't be surprised if it looks better to all of us than it does to you....
Everybody gets loose hair. Kinda part of the package. I'd use wool/silk/etc hats to aid with locking up. Otherwise just hang in there you will notice results you just gotta stop noticing first!
i agree with all of the above somewhat..i think if u show some pics the problens far less then u believe it to be also.. when u say u wash with baking soda and sea salt, do u add anything else? acv rinces lemon juice oils? the baking soda does an awessome job of cleanning but can lkeave hair pretty damn soft u may wanna alternate with dr b or something length length lenghth helps sooo much and throwing in a few beads..wearring a tam and yes rubbing (*gently) i think at this pointy the wool hat will do u the most good not too tightor too loose, it should be able to move lil bit and your hair able to move lil bity within it, but at the same time be in contact with alotta hair and providing just a lil bit of compression both compression and movement will help so should provide a ballance of each and sticking a bead in the end will keep loose hairs together so they can lock properly
actually, i guess its more of like the composition of my hair, its, trust me, as silk.. it even glows when hit by sunlight.. some areas are still dead straight, even now! so its not very suitable(i guess) locking/intertwining.. and if it does, its just so easy to get off of their clumps.. its been 9 + months now.. the longest part of my hair which is in the nape area is about chest-long now.. i hope i can find tams this weekend so i could just do what you guys were explaining.. as for the dr b, trust me on this, in my country, you WONT find that one.. i guess its just that my country does not import dr b. haha! oh yes, the pics.. i'll see what i can do.. thanks for the replies anyway.. ayos!
lets see pics do u have some dreads and some loose hairs? thats definately a possibility in some early naturals the deep cleanse baking soda can leave hair too soft at times so u may wanna switch to anything else..nutregena daily clasrifying dr b (can be shipped worldwirde..and im cedrtain if u do research u can find it anywhjere) lush bars hell use knottyboy or dreadheadhq shasmpoo if u gotta beads beazds will hold hairs together and allow movemnent, as well the application of beads forceds hairs uop to loop and begin to knot
My hair on the underside (nape of my neck and near my temples/ears) is very silky. It's been a few years and I *still* have some parts of mah head that are stick straight, as if it's been combed everyday... BUT, a lot of it underneath *has* knotted up, and I just noticed a new knot today that will probably "take" and turn into a dread. Just takes longer. I guess it all depends on your patience level and reasons for letting your hair go. If you want dreads immediately... you're better off backcombing. If you're patient (or want to learn a lesson in patience) and really want to stick with natural, it'll happen... just a lot longer than average and you'll probably have quite a bit of regular hair interspersed with the dreads for a long while (although that can look kinda cool). As above have mentioned, I'd backcomb before considering perming. I'll also add that Dr. Bronner's does bad things for my straight, silky hair - makes it greasy looking. I'm curious though... it's been 9 months... is it knotting up *at all*?!
i didn't even read all the posts but if you're doing it naturally why so worked up over it? why not just comb it in or something if you're worried.
actually.. i really dont like the idea of backcombing.. i kinda just felt like a little desperate sometimes.. haha.. actually, there really is formations... compared to a 9-month old though, kinda like, immature progress.. haha.. oh well.. i guess gotta give it, again, more time than ever.. btw, just to tell you a story, before i even start everything, i told my friend to backcomb, complete with crochet.. a single stalk from like near my nape area ages ago.. i slept... and then poof... gone! haha.. as for dr b's... shipping worldwide is not a choice at all.. it would take more money for the delivery than the product itself which for me is very irrational.. haha.. im from the far-south-eastern area of this world.. .hahaha.. like, a country some of you may never heard of. "Philippines".. i think we have this product for a line of beer.. "San Miguel Beer",which should be world famous.. haha.. xD last but not the least.. SE! i watched that video about Katrina aid/Rainbow Family you posted on some thread... and thats very awesome!
i dont like the idea of backcombing either but if i dont have knots by summer i'm just going to backcomb them lol my hair is literally thick silk lol
haha.. i also set my due date(and it has already passed).. but felt kinda better today.. so hopefully, this "betterness" would last me long until its all wicked knotty already without back combing.... haha..
