rudiments can be practiced on any percussion instrument. single stroke rolls (R-l-r-l-R-r-l-etc). are simple, triplets (R-l-r-L-r-l-R-l-r-L-r-l) are more fun, paradiddles (l-r-l-l-r-l-r-r-l-r-l-l-r-l-r-r) are a little harder and paradiddle-diddles take the piss (l-r-l-l-r-r-l-r-l-l-r-r-l-r-l-l-r-r). (the l and r stand for left <-> right hand and capital letters emphasise the strength of the strike). i used to practice rudiments 24/7, now im practicin double bass techniques.
