My wife gave me a beautiful present. It's a new copy of Larks' Tongues in Aspic, a newly remastered CD printed in the Netherlands with a great booklet containing many pages of newspaper and magazine articles about the band and the album. One of those articles mentions that Larks' Tongues in Aspic is King Crimson's sixth album. Now, I had always thought Larks' was King Crimson's fifth, and I'm not aware of any other album between Islands and Larks'.

Can anybody help me? For many years I've tried to keep my King Crimson collection complete, and not knowing about this fifth album is driving me crazy. (Unless they are counting one of the live albums like Ladies of the Road as the fifth album).

They must mean the live album, i think with the lslands line up called earthbound. I havent heard the album, but im not a big fan of the islands era.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but I need to be sure. Earthbound isn't one of King Crimson's best efforts, but then again, even the King's worst is better than most other people's best.

The problem here is this. By the time of Larks' Tongues in Aspic release, King Crimson had relesed 3 live albums (Epithaph, after In the Wake of Poseidon, and Ladies of the Road and Earhbound, after Islands). So, if we include all these albums, Larks' wasn't King Crimson's sixth album, it was their eight. So I still think the liner notes meant a fifth studio album, although it doesn't appear anywhere in King Crimson's discography. The only thing I can think of is that they're considering The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp to be King Crimson's first, but I don't see why.

Arent those other live albums you are talking about not albums that came out during that time on EG? DO you mean the Epitpah cd set that Fripp released a few years ago?

You're right. Those other two were recorded in the early seventies, but only released in the nineties. Then I guess Earthbound is King Crimson's fifth official album. Thank you.
