No 10 defends Johnson’s decision to fly back to London from Cop26

Downing Street has defended Boris Johnson’s decision to return from the Cop26 climate change summit by plane.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman confirmed Mr Johnson will fly back to London from Glasgow when the leaders’ conference section of the summit ends this week.

Pressed on why the Prime Minister could not go by train for a journey within the UK, the spokesman said it was important he was able to travel round the country while facing “significant time constraints”.

He said the private charter jet he is using for the flight uses a special mix of “sustainable” aviation fuel and is one of the most carbon-efficient aircraft of its size, while the emissions will also be offset.

It produces less than half the emissions produced by the RAF Voyager which the Prime Minister sometimes uses for foreign travel.

“Our approach to tackling climate change is to use technology so that we do not have to change how we use modes of transport, rather we use technology on things like electric vehicles so that we can still get to net zero,” the spokesman said.

“That has very much been at the core of our approach.”

It is important that the Prime Minister is able to move round the country and obviously we face significant time constraints.

“The plane the Prime Minister used on his travels is one of the most carbon-efficient planes of its size in the world. It produces 50% less CO2 emissions than, for example, the larger, Voyager plane.

“It uses a specific type of fuel that is a blend of 35% sustainable aviation fuel and 65% normal fuel, which is the maximum amount allowed.”

Mr Johnson used the aircraft, operated by Titan Airways, to fly out to the G20 summit in Rome on Friday and then carried on to Glasgow on Sunday.

The disclosure came after Chancellor Rishi Sunak faced accusations of hypocrisy when he announced a cut in air passenger duty on short-haul flights and a further freezing of fuel duty in his Budget last week, just days before the opening of Cop26.

Better than Biden who flew over 80 ruddy great big limo's, but not as good as Prince Charles who now runs his James Bond Aston Martin on old wine. Reckon that car must be worth millions now as the limited production repro's Aston are now making , which cannot be used on the road have a starting price of 3 million.

President Biden transported 80 huge limo's over here for part of his transport, while Prince Charles is running his James Bond Aston Martin, which he has had since he was on old wine, adding the car must now be worth a fortune as the current Bond replica's being made by Aston Martin cost upwards of £3 million each and cannot be used on the road.

So apparently the only reason that bastard Boris hired a private jet to fly him back to London from COP 26 in Glasgow was merely so he could attend a dinner party. How's that for sheer bloody arrogance and hypocracy ???

The Daily Mirror says the Prime Minister left the conference in Glasgow at 6.20pm and arrived at London Stansted at 7.16pm, before heading to the private men-only Garrick Club for a dinner for former Telegraph journalists.

The fashion of Mr Johnson’s exit was criticised as “staggering hypocrisy” by Labour chair Anneliese Dodds, after the Prime Minister opened the summit by imploring delegates to stop “quilting the Earth in an invisible and suffocating blanket of CO2”.

Ms Dodds said: “This is staggering hypocrisy from the Prime Minister. After warning world leaders it’s one minute to midnight to prevent climate catastrophe, Boris Johnson clocked off from Cop26, jumped in his private jet and flew down to London for dinner at a gentleman’s club with a self-confessed climate change sceptic.

“It seems that when it comes to taking action to tackle the climate crisis, there’s one rule for the Conservatives and another rule for the rest of the world.”

A Downing St source said Mr Johnson had always been due to leave Glasgow on Tuesday evening, as the element of the summit involving world leaders drew to a close.

Mr Johnson’s flight out of Glasgow was confirmed by the Prime Minister’s official spokesman on Monday.
