Looks like the North East Students don't do as well as the South East... Do you think the standard of education in the North East is to blame, or maybe expectations are lower up north? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7560654.stm
The reason could lay in the fact the South East has a dense population so the Government plough more money to the South East where as the Northerners are left out. This is my theory Eh Eh EEH!
I suppose the myths were all true. Up north, there are fewer jobs, fewer opportunities and basically third rate scholastic establishments. It basically means, places like Liverpool are a cultural wasteland, along with Kings Lynne, Bolton, Bradford, Newcastle and Glasgow. In Glasgow, a kid can dream and wake up to find that it was always just a dream. Like looking at a reflection of opportunity in a mirror. You try to reach it, but never can. No wonder Hadrian built a wall.
Ahahaha! My Last Work Buddy Annouched she was Going to the University of Hull... Took me a While to Stop Laughing then Realized she was being Serious...
This is a massive over-simplification. In fact some of the UK's leading universities are in Scotland and the North of England: Manchester, Durham, Edinburgh, Glasgow. Try telling a Glaswegian they live in a cultural wasteland, they'll smack you in the gob.
Good for Scotland. Additional: In Glasgow, the highlight of the place is the dockyards. Once a great shipping industry where they made boats and ships. Now lay abandoned like a cold vision of London Docklands in the early 80's.
Great isn't it. What with right wing think tank, The Policy Exchange and its opinion that investing in the north hasn't paid dividends, we' re all dooooomed Mister Mannering. It could be Tebbit all again. Genetics? Starting to sound like the nature/nurture bullshit. Even though it was said in jest.
There is always the river Clyde. Full of whirlpools, eddies and malicious undertows to drag any desperado to his much awaited watery grave. Just an idea.
The North East I believe experienced the decline of manufacturing industry the most, therein opportunities and expectations both decrease, self motivation is more difficult under those conditions, though it needs to be stated not impossible.
maybe it's because it's grim Up North or, perhaps because the overall standard of living is lower in the North, and more deprived areas tend to have relatively poorer educational results.
Ok, but what has it got to do with people from the north, or Scotland as is referenced, committing mass suicide? We don't walk about trailing our knuckles behind us on the ground while grunting. Maybe the whole debate is a reflection of your own ignorance. So you have a greater intellect, eh! Maybe you should practice it by being more objective in your thoughts and understanding instead of picking up on flat, one dimensional statistical information that perpetuates the north - south divide! I've lived in the south for long enough to appreciate what I enjoy out of life, if your photo suggests something of your own interests maybe you should visit and make your own judgements about our QUALITY OF LIFE!
Funny what statistics do to us all It amazes me how much kudos people put on college / uni education over work based learning etc. There's more than one way to cook an egg or educate a nation. Love Clairexx (Born and living in the north :cheers2
