The scumbag 'nasty party' would have us believe that the NHS is receiving all the equipment and safety devices that they need. Lying bastards that they are !!! it is clear that this is not so. Doctors without PPE ‘bullied and shamed’ into treating patients PA Apr 6th 2020 3:59PM Doctors are being “bullied and shamed” into not wearing protective equipment during the coronavirus crisis, according an association. The Doctors’ Association UK (DAUK) said one junior doctor had reported paediatricians attending deliveries of expectant mothers diagnosed with Covid-19 without wearing a mask. The association, a doctor-led lobbying and campaigning group, says they had heard from frontline NHS staff who felt they had been bullied or shamed into not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) due to shortages, and some who were told to “hold their breath” instead. DAUK has developed an app with Messly to collate anonymous testimonials of frontline NHS staff struggling during the pandemic. DAUK co-signs joint statement from doctors’ unions: the lack of safe PPE will be this government’s legacy DAUK co-signs joint statement from doctors’ unions: the lack of safe PPE will be this government’s legacy — The Doctors' Association UK — The Doctors’ Association UK (@TheDA_UK) April 6, 2020 A consultant in London, who had repeatedly asked for personal protective equipment (PPE) while seeing patients diagnosed with Covid-19, has now reported becoming unwell themselves, the organisation said. Also in London, DAUK said a junior doctor had reported there had been “severe rationing” and “paediatricians attending deliveries with Covid-19-positive mothers in just a flimsy apron and no FFP3 mask”. The group said the junior doctor had also said staff were resuscitating babies “without adequate protection”. Meanwhile, a surgeon in the North West reported to the association that they had been operating on coronavirus-positive patients without an appropriate mask. (PA Graphics) DAUK said that over 500 reports were received on Sunday from 193 trusts and GP practices. Their data found that 43% of doctors do not have any eye protection, some 72% do not have access to FFP3 (respirator) masks and 77% are without access to long sleeve gowns. It also found some 60% have not been fit tested for masks. DAUK president Dr Samantha Batt-Rawden said: “Lack of personal protective equipment continues to be a critical issue. “It is heartbreaking to hear that some staff have been told to simply ‘hold their breath’ due to lack of masks. “We are devastated, and can no longer stand by and and watch as more dedicated colleagues lose their life.”
Give it a rest Vlad, the government are working round the clock to get the UK through this crisis. They can't just click their fingers and provide the constant supply of ppe to ever single worker that needs it, it's a global issue with serious logistical challenges, you need to stop this constant negative barrage and if it bothers you so much, step away from the keyboard and go volunteer your services to help with the distribution or something. You really are a sad excuse of a man.
Go urinate elsewhere !!! - I'm not about to stop criticising this scumbag 'nasty party' Government when I think it deserves it !!!
I think people already know that without having a dead horse flogged Apart from continually repeating yourself - with one line criticisms, what alternatives do you offer as a creditable option (try and keep it positive)
This scumbag 'nasty party' promised that the lack of PPE would be solved very quickly once they got hold of this problem. YET ANOTHER LIE !!! Some hospitals now drastically short of PPE and are beginning to run out. There was supposed to have been a shipment of PPE from Turkey yesterday, but for unexplained reasons, that flight has been delayed. Delivery of protective healthcare equipment to UK delayed Reuters Apr 19th 2020 1:50PM A delivery of protective equipment for British health workers that was due on Sunday from Turkey has been delayed, a British government official said, as medics on the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak increasingly report shortages of gear. Ministers had on Saturday highlighted an 84-tonne consignment that was due to arrive from Turkey containing personal protective equipment (PPE), including 400,000 protective gowns. A British foreign office spokesperson cited "clearance and paperwork" for the delay, first reported by Sky News. "It's not quite ready yet," the official said, adding that they were "working to get this delivered as soon as possible". With hospitals under strain, health workers have criticised the government's advice that PPE worn while treating patients infected with coronavirus could be re-used, as supplies run low across the country. Helena McKeown, chair of the British Medical Association which represents doctors, told Sky News the delay would be "devastating" news for health professionals. Britain is at or near the peak of a health crisis in which more than 15,000 people have died in hospitals alone - the fifth highest national death toll of a pandemic linked to at least 150,000 deaths worldwide. The true toll is likely to be substantially higher as data on deaths in the community, such as in care homes, takes much longer to trickle in.
And still these callous bastards in the scumbag 'nasty party' can't resolve the issue of more PPE !!! Covid-19: Ministers attacked over PPE shortages PA Apr 20th 2020 4:52AM Organisations representing hospital trusts have rounded on the Government over its promise of more personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect workers in the fight against Covid-19. Chris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers, said there was "relatively low confidence" that a shipment of 400,000 surgical gowns which had been due to arrive in the UK from Turkey on Sunday would make its way into the country on Monday. The lack of PPE remains a dominant issue for NHS staff, as hospitals are forced into workarounds, including washing equipment and asking workers to accept wearing less protective gear. (PA Graphics) The NHS Confederation, which represents organisations across healthcare, has also reacted angrily to Government promises of more PPE, saying delays on the shipment from Turkey "makes a difficult situation worse". Its chief executive, Niall Dickson, said: "It would have been better had the Government not made the announcement in the first place" and said staff would need to make their own assessment over whether they felt safe with the PPE currently on offer. Mr Hopson told Radio 4's Today programme that it was wrong to focus on individual consignments of PPE because "bitter experience over the last few weeks" has shown they cannot be relied upon, with some boxes containing the wrong items and thousands of pieces missing. "So rather than being marched up to the top of the hill and being marched back down again, let's just focus on what we know we can be certain of," he said. "There's no doubt that at the moment, we have now got trusts that have definitely got shortages of gowns." Mr Hopson said trusts were reserving the stock of fluid-resistant gowns they do have for areas of high clinical risk, such as intensive care units, and using workarounds in other areas. "There's one trust that's basically discovered that if you launder those gowns at 60 degrees ... there's probably up to three times that you can do that, and the gowns appear to still be fully fluid-repellent," he said. While there had been many problems with consignments from abroad failing and the wrong items being sent, Mr Hopson said: "I suppose the question that we will need to ask whether this is over, is actually: was the pandemic stock reserve that was meant to tide us over, was it correctly configured?" NHS Providers chief executive Chris Hopson (NHS Providers/PA) The NHS is thought to use around 150,000 gowns a day, meaning the stock from Turkey would last less than three days. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said he was hopeful the gowns would still arrive, telling BBC One's Breakfast programme: "We are very hopeful that later today that flight will take off and we will get those gowns. "We are working very hard to resolve this, there have been challenges at the Turkish end. "I don't want to start making more and more promises but I understand that that flight will take off this afternoon and they will be delivered." Another 25 million gowns from China had been procured and the UK would be "getting those shortly as well", he said. This comes as: – Professor Sarah Gilbert from the University of Oxford, who is leading a team developing a Covid-19 vaccine, said the Government's chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance's comments that all vaccines were "long shots" did not pour cold water over her work. She added: "We have always said this will not be the only vaccine", adding that around 140 were in development worldwide. – Mr Dowden defended Prime Minister Boris Johnson's absence from several emergency Government meetings in the early stages of the battle against Covid-19. Mr Dowden said: "It is perfectly normal for other ministers, appropriate secretaries of state, to chair Cobra. The Prime Minister was being briefed on an hourly and daily basis, took a very close personal interest in this and clearly, as the crisis progressed, he then took over chairing." – Asked about Mr Johnson's reported reluctance to end the lockdown soon, a Number 10 source told the PA news agency: "(The) PM is very concerned about a second peak if we lift the restrictions too soon." The number of hospital deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19 has now passed 16,000, with a further 596 announced on Sunday. The figure does not include those who died in care homes.
Stupid bastards in the government could have had sufficient PPE for both hospitals and nursing homes days or even weeks ago, but instead to chose to ignore the offers being made, thus putting peoples lives at risk and causing deaths to many health workers. I do hope the relatives of one of these health workers prosecutes this ignorant, incompent scumgag 'nasty party' government' !!! Coronavirus: Government accused of ignoring offers to produce PPE amid row over delayed shipment from Turkey Labour leader warns of 'increasing gap' between government view of what is happening and reality The government has been accused of ignoring offers to produce vital protective equipment as a Tory minister was unable to say when a delayed shipment from Turkey would arrive in the UK. Labour‘s Rachel Reeves said she had been “inundated” by calls from British manufacturers who have contacted the government offering to make personal protective equipment (PPE) to allow medics to safely treat coronavirus but have heard nothing back. Her concern was echoed by Sir Keir Starmer, the party’s leader, who warned of an “increasing gap” between what the government believes is happening and the reality on the frontline. Reports have emerged of UK firms being forced to sell lifesaving gear abroad because their offers of help had been repeatedly ignored. It comes as local government minister Simon Clarke was unable to say exactly when a consignment of PPE would arrive from Turkey which was expected to come on Sunday. An RAF aircraft was dispatched to collect supplies of 400,000 gowns on Monday after unexpected delays. Ministers are facing sustained criticism over shortages of protective kit for frontline health workers, with the head of the Royal College of Anaesthetics telling The Independent that doctors should not treat patients without adequate PPE. Ms Reeves, the shadow cabinet office minister, said British businesses had offered to make protective equipment and clothing, particularly gowns, but they had not received a response from the government. She told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “Some of them are doing it on an ad-hoc basis for local hospitals or care homes, but this needs to be systematic – it needs to be a national effort, using all of our manufacturing and textile capacity and capability to ensure that the doctors and nurses and care workers ... have that equipment and clothing that they need.” The Labour MP said there had been “too much focus” on importing PPE from overseas and that there had not been enough focus on bringing smaller suppliers into the national effort. “It is a disgrace that we’ve got people working on the frontline who aren’t properly protected and government’s first and foremost responsibility is to protect its citizens, and this now is our main priority.” “It would be a struggle for any government to get exactly the right kit to the right place at the right time,” Sir Keir told the BBC. “But what we’re seeing here is an increasing gap between what the government says or thinks is happening and what the front line of telling us. “This gap has to be closed as soon as possible because people are putting their lives literally on the line when they go to work.” Alan Johnson, who runs factories in China which make electronics, said he first approached the government almost three weeks ago to offer help with PPE. The St Albans-based businessman told The Independent: “It’s very frustrating, we want to help, we have the skills to make this happen but I don’t have the demand to be able to go and ask my factories to get going. “Maybe it’s just me, but I suspect there are others out there being ignored and not given the chance to make a difference.” Mr Johnson added: “If I had instant responses from anybody two and a half weeks ago, [the PPE] would be ready now and would be on it’s way here, if not here already. Every day that goes by is wasted time.” On Saturday, cabinet minister Robert Jenrick said 84 tonnes of PPE, including 400,000 gowns, would arrive in the UK from Turkey the next day but the shipment has not materialised. Pressed on whether the RAF aircraft was returning with the PPE, Mr Clarke said: ”I can’t speak to that, I’m afraid. All I know is it set off last night. “It will be with us obviously in the UK in the next few days, which is the core priority.” Mr Clarke said there is a “standing presumption” that the government will do its utmost to buy protective gear ”wherever it can be sourced” and urged manufacturers to “reach out” to the Cabinet Office to log their ability to make equipment. Meanwhile, Ravi Mahajan, the RCOA president, said his organisation would support medics who feel unsafe to treat patients. He said: “What we are advising our members is that you have to take stock of everything. Your health, the patients, the compromises that you may have to make, are they safe enough? “Take the whole picture into account. And then if your decision is, I can’t provide this treatment at this time, then we would support you.” Over half (54 per cent) of dentists in England said PPE shortages are hampering efforts to treat patients at urgent dental care hubs, according to a survey of 1,010 UK dentists by the British Dental Association (BDA).
Now it turns out that the 84 tons of PPE the Government ordered from Turkey, not only is it inadequate, but apparently Turkey are unable to fulfill the full order anyway !!! RAF plane returns from Turkey PPE mission PA Apr 21st 2020 11:01PM An RAF plane carrying a delayed consignment of personal protective equipment (PPE) for NHS staff has landed in the UK. Flight tracker RadarBox showed the Airbus A400-M registered ZM416 depart Istanbul and land just after 3.30am on Wednesday at RAF Brize Norton. According to Sky News, the Turkish supplier did not have enough stock to fulfil the order for 84 tonnes of equipment. Turkey's ambassador to the UK, Umit Yalcin, said: "As far as I understand there have been problems with the private supplier company. "Now Turkey is cooperating with the UK authorities to find a quick solution for the UK's urgent needs. "Turkey helped the UK by donating 250,000 pieces of personal protective equipment last week and this time again Turkey is trying to help the UK authorities to resolve this commercial issue." The Government has come in for mounting criticism over its failure to ensure NHS staff treating coronavirus patients have the protective equipment they need. Ministers insisted they were pursuing "every possible option" to secure additional kit but said that, with unprecedented worldwide demand, the situation is "very challenging". Local Government Minister Simon Clarke could not give a timescale on when the full supplies would arrive earlier this week, saying only that it would be in the "next few days". Separately, the Government said that 140,000 gowns had arrived from Burma – but with the NHS using 150,000 a day, the demand on resources remains intense. With fears that staff in hospitals and care homes are risking their lives, the TUC called for an independent inquiry into the Government's handling of the issue to be mounted before the end of the year. Hospitals have sought other ways of obtaining PPE, with the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust buying 6,000 sets of coveralls due to a very low stock of gowns, although it admitted this was "not ideal". Chris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers, has said trusts are being forced into "hand-to-mouth" workarounds, including washing single-use gowns and restricting stocks to key areas. Chancellor Rishi Sunak told reporters at the Number 10 press briefing on Monday that work was ongoing to find more PPE. He said: "We're improving our sourcing internationally and domestically to make sure we can get the PPE we need in what is a very challenging international context. "But people on the front line can rest assured that we're doing absolutely everything we can and straining everything we can to get the equipment they need."
