Sorry If I post this in the wrong area. I have a problem that I am trying to assist in resolving. My little cousin(14 y.o.) has been having issues with her period...it has lasted for 9 weeks now and I hate to see her suffer from it. I skimmed around and found some reasons why it could last so long but the only easy to fix problem is increasing vitamin k in her diet(may be causing the blood not to clot). Obviously she went to get medical assistance and was recommended to start taking the pill which is one of the solutions I read about. I was curious if any one else expierienced this kind of problem and if so how long it took the pill to kick in(if that was the solution). I know her mother had very brutal PMS and that might be a factor her mother also passed due to cervical cancer. But my uncle told me my aunt never had something like this. I feel really powerless and I want to help the poor thing or atleast give her some reassurance. Thank you for your time.
If she is 14 and her period is lasting 9 WEEKS, I would take her to a doctor. Immediately. That doesn't seem at all healthy and could be a whole host of things. Don't take chances on your health- take her to the doctor. ASAP.
You can get a second opinion about this, but it may be that vitamin k and the pill are the best that western medicine can do. I strongly recommend acupuncture and chinese herbal medicine if you can find quality care at a reasonable price.
No we took to her a doctor a while ago and her obgyn and what not. The tests and blood tests she had to go took a while to process I assume( just returned to see family and walked into this) I hope it is nothing serious but as of right no the pill was all that was recommended by the doctors. My uncle is still asking the doctors for something more since she is still having problems a week into taking the pill. I was asking for a female opinion not a cure. I mean she is the only girl in the house so she has no one to talk to about this and I would like to be able to reassure her about this. There has been no neglect just lots of waiting for tests and lots of uncertainty from the doctors. My uncle wasn't told what was wrong so much as what might fix the problem. I appologize for not mentioning that she has been to a doctor BUT since you need a perscription to be on the pill I assumed it was obvious. I also said "Obviously she went to get medical assistance and was recommended to start taking the pill which is one of the solutions I read about." but I guess reading or asking questions instead of jumping to conclusions is too much to ask. Thank you for any one who read.
Since she is seeing a doctor and they have prescribed the pill, it may take at least a full cycle of the pill for it to work and possibly they may have to then change the one prescribed if it does not have the desired results. There are different birth control pills and some contain higher levels of hormones which may be needed in this case. My concerns would be anemia so I would request frequent blood work until this is resolved and I would also ask about having a hormonal panel done to rule out that it could be caused by any other fluctuations. Keep the communication going with her as I am sure at 14 this is rather scary for her. Hope this resolves soon for her and her cycles become controlled.
I read that line incorrectly, sorry Exiled! I guess then just try to keep her comfortable while you wait for the pill to take effect. Ice cream, dark chocolate, warm baths, tea. Bananas are known to help ease cramps and discomfort. Poor girl
she needs to talk to a school nurse or get some other help instead of older male cousins big time creepyness factor here
I think it's a no living females issue, although I wondered, too. I'm hoping this is more a no mom, no sisters deal. Just so you know, OP, periods stop when the lining is shed. Clotting in relation to menstruation is lining tissue. Not clotting in the cut skin sense. Was it verified that she is,indeed, having a menstrual period, and not bleeding in general? If it's spotting, or light, make sure her iron is checked next month. A well balanced diet with high iron foods will be useful. Heavier flow this long is worrisome. If she is also having cramping that affects her ability to live a normal life, she needs to go back to the gynecologist pretty soon.
I dont think thats necessarily true. To the 14 yr old herself some relos can be creepier or wierder than others, whether male or female And their are different types of creepy
