Update: Spirit Wynd has left searching for another path, please contact Fritz da Cat, as he has taken over details and inquries... I'll keep this thread open for the commune...thanks.

    Greetings all,

The commune is here on a hill top in sw VA, it's 84 acres of farm land, woods, creek in the valley, a big sky that looks like a planetarium at night, a horse that thinks it's a person, 2 cats a dog, 2 donkeys, 2 pot bellied pigs, lots of chickens and turkeys. We have a nice sized main cabin and a smaller cabin which is mine, but will most likely be the music room, and a few smaller cabins scattered about, and an old house we use for storage, food cellar, tool shop, etc.
There's an out house for now, lol, but it's nice, and will be a real bathroom in the main cabin soon. We have some great tasting ground water pumped using a generator and hauled by tractor.

A nice veggie garden and a smaller herb garden and a few others scattered about, all are organic of course.

The goal is to eventually become self sufficient and to have a circle of cabins each dedicated to a certain theme, such as, herb craft, music, pottery, self wellness and reiki or tai chi like stuff, wood craft, etc.
Also kitchen items like jams and jellies, canning foods, possibly later on a smokehouse to cure meats and such.
It's mostly primitave living here with a few modern things, but trying to keep them as low as possible, but getting more organized every day, so if you're into camping, you'll love it.
There are lots of projects and can be fun doing things, learning and teaching new skills, we share cooking and dishes, have an old washer and line dry clothes.
There's an Ahmish store with great prices, 25 cents for a 2.00 candy bar, and a few other stores about, prices also good, cheap cigs for 2.50 and Marlboro's 4.50+
There are trails to the creek and about for nature hikes and tours once the nature cabin and tipi are up and ready.
Also an area to practice primitive survival skills.
There will be a camping area for visitors when the beds are being used in the cabin. Or for groups wanting to get away, we can do either trade labor or charge them a small fee.

We expect the usual no violence, no theft, and no bullshit, also, no heavy party heads, keep it light with the drinking and smoking(except when we have gatherings, etc.) also no acid heads, etc.
We had our time in that scene, and have no problems with anyone who does it, but we needed to move on and live another way... respect.

There's no fee to join, nor any monthly payments, only 15 hour minimum work week, and taking care of the animals is easy, if you have any supplies to contribute that'll be great, if you can support yourself with food and personals, great, if not, we'll work something out, we have storage goods for such things until harvest time and our food stores grow.

No skills needed except a good work ethic and willingness to learn, but will be handy if you have woodworking, organic farming, canning, drying herbs, making things from herbs like cough drops, shampoo, soap, etc., electrical or plumbing, animal care, jewelry making, crafts, etc.
Open to any faith except Satanism, no offense but we decided against it... we are Pagan friendly, though the town is very close minded, so we have to keep it low key but will have a circle in the woods by the creek, the moon is intense here...
There are a few people here already and the visitors from town and such, we're looking for both men and women to maintain a balance, kids ok too.
Well, that's about it for now, feel free to ask any questions, PM Fritz da Cat if interested.

    Serious people only!!!

    Peace and Blessings

    Here's a few pic's for ya, I'll get more when I can...

Thanks, I'm having a blast here, very peaceful, have to get my star charts, the sky is awesome, so will be the meteor shower on April 21-25.
I cut the path all the way down the hill to the creek, lots of flowers are now visible making the hike down even nicer.
I scared a few deer while fishing last evening...lol.

    Interesting.

Curious, how humid are the summers of your neck of the woods?

Hi, my name is corey and I'm currently deployed in afghanistan for the secound time. I work as a front line medic basically working as a paramedic. For a long time I've been searching for some kind of truth in this world. Believe it or not in spite of all the bad things I've been through and seen over here I feel myself comming closer to that truth I seek.

I won't be getting back from over here till around August and even then I have to clear the army and won't be getting out till around november. I'm really accustomed to communal living so and after being here a couple times and having come back to the states in between time I really would like to find an alternative to the general american culture. I feel like most people in the states take things for granted most of the time and don't realize how much they waste. I've thought that for a long time but its really become more and more true in my mind.

I'm really interested in joining your commune and contributing whatever I can. I have a really good work ethic as long as I can see the good comming from the hard work I can put in. Given my current skill set please e-mail me if you'd be interested in having someone like me. I really need to find something that means more than just living for entertainment purposes. I need something that can satisfy my desire for some kind of inner peace.

Here's my contact info. cball8736@yahoo.com . I may not be able to respond right away so please be patient. If it ends up that I am unable to participate I wish you all the best in what you do.

    Love the People. Peace.

    Hello,

I am very interested in your post in regards to your new commune.

I am a 31 year old male and am basically tired of living in the rat race.I have been looking for an arraignment exactly as you describe. I would be more than willing to bring my skills to the table to further assist you in creating a great community.I am knowledgeable in backwoods skills, survival skills (living off of the land) and have a knack for woodworking/construction. I have been working towards living a more green life and towards being more self sufficient/using sustainable resources that mother nature provides.

My ideal goal would be a completely off the grid primitive cabin in a community shared by other like minded folks.

My interests are towards being self sufficient, green construction and breaking away from the norm. I think that in order to be healthy and at peace and truly happy, that I need to get away from the normal day to day grind of working my life away to make someone else (or myself) rich.

I would really like to speak with you more about the details,so if you feel that I might be a good fit, please feel free to send me an email at jdmtyper08@yahoo.com

I am presently located in SW Ohio, and would be glad to meet with you in person if you would like to plan a weekend in advance.

Hey Spirit, pretty darned crafty here, but heading to a 5 acre homestead still in the works in NM in the next few days. Pretty much nothing there from what I understand so I'll be doing a bunch of projects for the property owner to get things prepped, cutting trees, digging cisterns, figuring out the best amendments for the local clay so we can use it for brick making and so forth (Lot's of Pumice in the area to add and carbon never hurts) One goal is a charcoal kiln so we can make Terra Preta,,, and so I can have charcoal for blacksmithing and foundry projects. Very Pioneer style environment, probably going to be using allot of wild~crafted primitive tooling to get going, I'm so looking forward to seeing how this pans out. :D
I should be making it back to civilization about once or twice a month for supplies and a check in with the world.

If for any reason this plan implodes, I'll be contacting you, sounds like a good setup and my 20 something years as an electromechanical technician / industrial maintenance engineer and home brewed mad scientist should prove to be handy. ;)

Might take some time in between to do the Alaskan fishing thing just to make some cash before coming, we'll see how all this plays out eh'?

P.S. ShaggieB, Good luck and Godspeed making it home in one piece. :cheers2:

I'm told the humidity isn't too bad being far from the ocean and on top of the low mountain. It may be felt more so down in the valley but there's a nice creek with a chest deep swimming hole... maybe with a few people, we can dig it deeper. It's mostly in the shade so usually nice and cool with a sandy shore to sit and hang with a fire. There's also a few fish, not too large, but something to get the pole wet, but there's a beautiful lake down the road and a river in the other direction.

wow, seeing this kind of stuff always inspires me.
After I figure out what kind of path I'm really striving for I would love to be in one of these, if only for a few months. Good luck with your project, I hope everything goes well for you and all of the other residents of your commune.

Ok there ladies, we need to maintain a balance here, I've been getting many inquiries from guys of various ages.
We need you too, not to be hit on or look pretty, but the values from a woman's perspective is important, we need both types of energy here.
You'll have respect here, I won't stand for less... besides, the owner is a woman who's good people, down to earth, and won't put up with any crap either, so come on, take a chance. I'm having a blast here, it's usually quiet, except when the donkey's do the hee-haw thing...funny as heck.

For others who wrote me, be patient, I'm getting there... we get lots of inquiries.

    Peace,Spirit

Too bad I don't meet their puritan standards of language. Good luck to whoever is sparkling clean enough to get in.

Apparently, bad people like me aren't allowed in. Enjoy. :)

See, that's what I mean, I pm'ed you about the cussing thing saying I'd get along with you but the owner is picky... it's not up to me on who comes here, I only have a say in the matter, like what many communes do... and you can't take no for an answer, so you just have to come here and whine about it instead of accepting you're not what we're looking for at this time.

We will eventually expand and be wanting more people, but they must be mature enough to accept the commune guidelines or that not everyone is right for every place.
There are many communes out there and I know many that you may fit into just fine that have less "puritan standards".
We're not saints, nor looking for perfection, but a somewhat professional and mature attitude is required, and coming here with that post just proved you don't have one... at least show some respect and just look elsewhere without the negative feedback.

This sounds really amazing, I can just imagine once your a completly self sustained organic commune how little your carbon footprint will be. I've always wanted to join a commune i've booted around in the commune section alot and considered joining afew before only to find there was a catch or something sketchy about them.

    No acidheads?

That's extremely intolerant, for no good reason really....
Plenty of acid heads are highly intelligent, and highly motivated people.
Only serious people.......so someone with no sense of humor? Don't understand that one either.

I don't understand why so many of you organic movement hippies are intolerant of psychedelic use especially, because you pick out rotten apples other ways, not by blanketing a whole group of people as not in line with your perspective. Very nitpicky little pricks when it comes to members.

That's pretty lame, I hope along my journey, that I/we establish an open farm and community with more hope for psychedelic insightfuls. You know , people with a little extra perspective.
