'6 feet apart is better than 6 feet under':
The new rules of COVID-19 etiquette

    Hello people.
I heard this particular expression on the radio this afternoon.
Then I read the above link online.

As far as I am concerned it expresses the cold reality that unless we all keep to the Social Distancing instructions of staying 6 feet apart from other people, then for many of us it could well be Pop Your Clogs Time!
And from what I have been hearing and seeing dying from this Corona Virus is a really really really nasty and painful death during which on your way out of this world, you are struggling to breath.

I really do want for all members of this HIP forum and their families and their friends, to come through this particular nightmare.
So please please please adhere to the instruction/advice in this respect now being given in most countries, including as I understand, the US and the UK.

    Take Care.
    Be Safe.

    Kenny

In these days of coronavirus, etiquette takes on a greater importance.
This isn’t a matter of where to place knives and forks, or even of someone obnoxiously wearing his backpack on a crowded BART train; the new etiquette is part of a more dire social reality.

Or, as Bay Area etiquette expert Lisa Grotts bluntly put it: “Six feet apart is better than six feet under.”

Yes that has been going on here for weeks now. Only 6 allowed in grocery stores at a time and must remain 6 feet apart from each other. I wonder how bus and subway services are doing here and if it is shut down? Haven’t heard anything about it.

    Thanks for posting Gal.
Living here in Rhos On Sea UK and obviously by the seaside, as far as I can see almost everybody is at least trying to keep feet 6 feet distance.
It is weird walking along the promenade now as it is so quiet, and seeing whoever moving away from us as we get near them.
And then me being paranoid, :tonguewink: I think:

    Oh no!
I have two bottles in the cupboard.
I will try to squeeze them across the internet waves. Only a small porthole, get ready to pull. Lol

I'm dumbfounded at how unobservant some people are about the six feet, or social-distancing.

I guess not everyone sits with their computer all the time though. I know my folks, for example, will watch the evening news or read the morning paper. That keeps them up to date, but it's not like the internet.

I went to get my allergy shot today. Usually it is walk-in for it. They called and set a time. 11:00am this morning. So I arrive and there is a big sign and warnings in front of the door. Try the door and it is locked. They open the door right at 11, no one is there but me, with a skeleton staff. Wearing masks and a plastic visor that covered their entire face. Hair covered too, was quick, no wait, they don’t want me to touch anything, opened the door for me and locked it behind me.

I far from sit at my computer all the time I’m.
But of course the internet is a wealth of knowledge if one wants to look for it.

I do find that most people now are keeping to the 6 foot guidance, but as with most things, there are always the idiots about who don’t think of the possible consequences of their stupid way of going on.

    1817–1824 cholera pandemic - Wikipedia

apparently the US had a yellow fever outbreak in 1820 too, but wiki doesn't give much info on it so i assume it wasn't as serious.

edit: 1918-1920 was the spanish flu.

2nd edit: for some reason, wiki also lists AIDS as 1920-present. i'm not aware that it was around back then, but i suppose i don't know for a fact that it wasn't.

    Smallpox 1763 Fort Pitt..
Ancient alien theorists have hypothesized that this was the first modern use of biological warfare.. However other diseases took out a lot people then too.

looking back further on the list:

1720-1722, great plague of marseille took out over 100,000 people.
1616-1620, the 1616 new england epidemic took out 30-90% of new england's population.
1520, the 1520 smallpox epidemic took out 5-8 million in mexico.

prior to that, no major epidemics took place in a 20 year.
