I'm am wondering what people think of the work of art titled "Comedian" by Maurizio Cattelan? It sold at a Southebys auction in NY for $5.2 million with the buyer paying an additional $1 million for the auction house fees. A crypto investor made the purchase. My take is that the investor is buying, what I believe to be, temporary fame. Not art. I've read some of the interpretations of the work's meaning and intent. I do not get it. In my mind, I can see the artist sitting around with drinking buddies telling them he could duct tape a banana to wall and sell it as art. His buddies betting him that no one would buy it. I believe Barnum is proved correct once again. I'm not an artist so perhaps I'm missing something. Does anyone else care to comment?
