So today we have 6 mega-corporations that control what 95% of people listen to, read and watch on TV. We have sports that are multi-billion dollar enterprises. We worship corporate psychopaths and our politicians are put in by the same people. So in a sense we are all the submissive celebrating the dominating elite molding us into whatever image they desire.

When can we have a new 1960s counterculture of significance???

depends on what we are focused on.....I suppose....I see comedians, artists, writers, comics and many others not accepting the way that society is....i certainly don't....so I live in my world....and focus on what I want to.....lone voices can sometimes become many.

No one is forcing us to be conformists and consumers of mass crap. I think the true definition of pornography is anything you hear or watch that actually affects you negatively. To me, movies that show excessive violence (e.g., Saw III) and music like rap are pornography. That does not mean I want to ban them, because I am against censorship. Take control of your life and avoid polluting your mind.

There is plenty of good alternative culture, so what else do you need?

Yes,..... they loved Louis XIV, Julius Ceasar, Mao, Fidel, John Gotti, Vladimir Putin.

Are we to expect the life of a farmyard animal, trading our independence, our pride for a portion of gruel and a hay-bed?

i think a better metaphore, would be 500 cans of soup, each with a different label on it, and exactly the same crap (ingreedients) on the inside, of every last one of them.

That's interesting as a Belgian friend who told me about working in a cannery once, told me about how they canned vegetables and later labelled them with different brand names according to who they were ordered by.

Enough people seem to desire being dominated by a singular source of power when its' greatest effect applies to those they disagree with. Individual freedom has always been temporary in existence, and with the worlds population increasing and with technology applicable to controlling the masses increasing, it is likely that the peaks of freedom will be smaller and shorter in duration in the future.
