I'd like to do a few days on the AT this fall to shake down some winter gear. Either starting or finishing in Harper's Ferry, WV. I can get us transport to the start and either back or back to the DC/Baltimore area. Anyone want to join me?
Looks like I'm going to be heading down to North Carolina (Fayetteville) in November so it's quite possible. Whats the trail like around that area?
North Carolina into VA is pretty hilly. Plenty of trailheads and road crossings, lots of through towns to resupply, plenty of water sources. And the trail would be empty during the week.
All good things! I've only been on bits of the AT in the smokies. And besides a few local trails I really haven't done any that weren't in big national parks.
OK so it got cut to a 20 miler on Big Schloss Trail, a section of the Great Eastern Trail (GET). Anyone?
Well I managed a few days on the AT in Shenandoah. Saw tons of deer, and a bear! Though that was while driving. Mission accomplished on my end. :cheers2:
Nope, sadly looks like I'm stuck in Detroit for the rest of the year. Have a good time! There is a chance I might be available for something long term in the spring. Depends on when I actually go to New Zealand.
No it's cool. The bad thing aboutbeing self employed is that the checks take a while to come in. The good thing is that I can work whenever I want to and hike or sail when I don't. We'll do something this Spring.
I solve problems in the construction industry. Sometimes I consult, sometimes I fabricate and install custom millwork, sometimes I provide labor. I used to rehabilitate homes for people who were going to be evicted and their homes condemned, and I used to take plain houses and make them accessible to people with physical and mental disabilities. Mostly for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Now I contract for a company that builds Marriott hotels.
