Let me begin by thanking Nemisis, Mafuman, Velvet (who, though I'm married, I think I love) and several others for their most excellent feedback throughout this forum. This forum has been my primary resource for researching our short jaunt through A'Dam in early-April and your knowledge has been mondo-informative and appreciated! Now my question: You're gonna be in A'Dam for approximately 48 hrs. You have a concert to attend on the night of your arrival and then have next day to do whatever strikes your fancy. You used to be, 10 yrs ago, quite the toker until you found a woman who now has you semi-domesticated but you KNOW you wanna sample the wares at a few of the finer CS's. Is there anything in particular, knowing what you know, that you would recommend doing on that second day in addition to sitting around in a stoned stupor all day? We're moving on to Hamburg to catch another show, thus limiting our time and our access to the smoke....grrrr Im kinda thinkin the Heineken tour would be great to see. Any other suggestions out there? Thanks muchly
I've never done the Heineken tour so can't really advise if it's worthwhile or any good, (btw, it's only a museum type place as the actual brewery is now located elsewhere) Other things you could possibly do is take a canal tour, visit Anne Frank, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Sex museum, Diamond factories, Artis Zoo, Botanical gardens, Tropical Gardens, Muziektheatre, Cannabis College, Marijuana museum, Cassa Rosso, Magic Mushroom Gallery, let alone the myriad of other galleries dotted about the city. Apart from all that the general shops in certain areas are worth visiting as well as markets for bargains and what not, such as Waterlooplein or Albert Cuyp. Hope that helps, but every time I go, making plans never seems to fall into place when I'm there as such. It's just as good to wander about I find, wherever my feet are pointing I go. I did like the Hologram gallery/shop (Grimburgwal) after a joint or two, just wish I had enough money to buy a few of them. Have a good one.
Here is how I would spend my second day of 48 hours, if I only had that to deal with. Buy a 24-hour I Amsterdam Card. It entitles you to free admission to almost all the city's famous museums, plus (2) Free Canal Cruises. Another great extra is free travel on trams so you can get to where you need to go quickly. Recommended Sites - ALL Free with the I Amsterdam Card! Hortus Botanicus - Van Gogh Museum - (2) Free Canal Cruises - Museum Amstelkring - De Oude Kerk Recommended Coffeeshops - Coffeeshop Map Grey Area - Amnesia - Dampkring - De Kuil 420 Cafe - The Noon (Blueberry) Recommended First & Last Coffeeshop Central Coffeeshop (especially if you arrive early/leave early) There's more I'd recommend but this is the 24-hour agenda right? Gotta be reasonable with the time factor. Have a great time and make the most of your 48-hours. Hope this information helps.
The Heineken Experiance costs €7.50 per person and you get the tour of the museum 3 small beers and a free glass at the end, I'd say do it after a good smoke its good fun! Jon
This is all good information, only one item has been left off though... Meeting up with other fans of the Mule who are as crazy as you are to fly across the ocean to see them. Hang out with them in these coffee shops to see exactly how high we can get off of this weed. Now that my friends is priceless.
Prog - gonna happen my fellow Mulie! Thanks guys! 18 days 'til we touch down in the Stoner's Mecca to jam with The Mule! http://mule.net/index.php Speaking of which, have any of you/yours attended a live music gig at The Melkweg? We wanna get there in time to get up close, since it's general admission, and just wondering how early that should be. I figure we should have plenty of time to partake at some of the above-mentioned shops, check in to our hotel and take some of the goodies to make the wait a tad more comfortable.
