it's slang for smoking pot. as in "hey, do you wanna 420 at my house or yours?"
it is also a time of day that stoners try to smoke during. "hey hold up on that bowl, it'll be 420 in ten minutes".
and it's also april 20th, the anniversary of columbine and hitler's birthday. we also like to smoke weed on it (those things are probably un-related however).

    enough question marks?

there was a good website thrown around here some time ago that had some good info on the origins of 420.

they say it actually came from a group of stoners at a high school somewhere in California way back in the day. and every day after school they would meet up and smoke at 4:20. and spread like wildfire after that.

Usually, using 420 is an indication to other smokers that you smoke, while keeping it unknown to many who don't. When my mother was single, she would go on one of those dating sites, if they smoked they would usually indicate so by saying '420 friendly'.

420 originally started out when a group of pot smoking kids who were in detention a lot, would ask each other if they were going to meet up at 4:20 (when detention ended) behind the school to burn one. It was such a great sneaky code, it's what they used every time after that. Teachers/parents were none the wiser.
Now people throw yearly 420 parties. Aaaahhh commercialism.

    It's also Hitlers birthday.

And the day those kids shot up Columbine.

everyone has a different origon for where 420 is from. but it is the code for smoking. people celebrate april 20th like its a holiday. anytime a stoner in school hears "page 420" the answer is "420" or any other means the number comes about, we smile.

God, how creepy. I thought it was the police code for a drug bust, or people smokin' pot, or something. Like 187 is for homicide.
And then because of that it just became used for anything pot related.
    Stoners are pretty deep. hahahah.
    I love that!

Myth: cops do not use 420 or 419 as a code to bust anyone for pot.
