it was my new years resolution to start a dreadlock journey. I guess it's been 4 or 4 1/2 months since that started and im so happy with how things are going. I love my wacky loopy loo's! my hair started pretty long. boob/middle of back length. it has shrunken up so much! i have wave hair which has contributed to serious loops and curls. I twist and ripped a bit in the beginning but its mainly been a neglect method. ripping things when they get matted and then just leaving it alone. i did crochet one funky bit that was just a big poof of matted hair, it needed some help to shape up and i'm pleased with what the little bit of crocheting did. I have all different sizes. there one super fatty in the back that i've adorned with a neat heart dangly (i think it was a bracelet for a very small child) and i've started adding other little colorful wooden beads. I had a big bag of embroidery thread that i really wanted to play with but it seems it has disappeared *sad face* I was washing with a natty boy dready bar once a week in the beginning but now its more like once every three weeks. i just can't wait till there 1st birthday and see what they are like then so heres a pic of me right before i started, and heres a bunch of other pics of me today
aah I love them , they have shrunk so much! I started with long hair too but it only started shrinking at 5 months, yours are knoting way faster. They will look awesome in the future :2thumbsup:
I'm going to be that jerk: You do realize that it's not neglect if you tnr, and then don't touch them? still tnr dreads. Cool locks...... considering they're "created", using a "method" :leaving:
i mean that a few, like maybe 5, i experimented with twist and rip. and the rest was a matter of neglect. anyways, it's not like it matters
Very nice and congrats on your dreadiversary. Also, welcome to the Dread forum - where every thread has at least one /facepalm moment.
Yeah, there a few non dread heads that love to criticise, don't worry, it's practice for the real world
They're amazing. And in my opinion, they aren't 'fake poser dreads' at all. Everyone chooses to do their hair differently, so what if you're using a method? They're still some of the best dreads I've ever seen! :') Peace <3
:iagree: it doesn't matter what 'method' you used (or didn't use), dreads are dreads, and yours will be awesome :2thumbsup:
I'd dispute this maybe, that is if you're talking about the topic dreads. (If you mean people criticising anything in general, then yeah sure As far as dreads go though, (irl), I've never had anyone say anything negative to me that I can think of. I suppose that's because the average person knows nothing about dreads. People can be rude sometimes stare etc, ask the usual questions, but I've never had anyone question methods, elitisim etc. irl. This appears only to crop up on teh interwebs, mainly in forums. I have also never had anyone outright say "that's disgusting" or something similar. Having said that, I do find them useful If I'm taking public transport, or a flight somewhere, no one ever wants to sit next to me ... I don't care, moar space for me :2thumbsup:
I've had a guy at work say "He just wants an excuse to not wash his hair", and lots of Rasta stereotyping. I expect it now so it doesn't affect me at all, but it's definitely taken time to get used to. The first time I got heckled it really stressed me out!
