There are a lot of Part 3s that coming out this summer blockbuster season: Spiderman, Shrek, Ocean's 13, Pirate's/Carribean, Bourne ultimatum, Rush Hour. And a part 4: Die Hard.

What in your opinion should be the max number of films in a movie series?

I think even in the best of series , 3 for any action movie should be tops. Even for films for popular superheroes (e.g. Blade, Batman, X-men, superman, spiderman) or a sci-fi like Star Wars, which i count as 2 separate trilogies. The special effects start to feel less special after awhile

I think 2 (an original and a sequel) for a comedy is just about right (eg Meet the Parents). Anything more, the jokes start to get old (see Scary movie, Police Academy.

I don't have an exact preference number for horror/slasher flicks, but certainly no more than 3. For films like Friday-13th, Halloween - it's just too much. How many ways can people die?

And , just my opinion, the later the instalment, the less chance that it's better than any of the previous one(s). So if i think to myself of all the good sequels that were the best in its series, even less part 3s that were superior come to mind, etc.

James Bond to me is a special case, so even though they've done 21 of them, if they do it right - like the last one - they should keep making them.

What do you think of number of sequels, or what are your best three-quels, trilogies and series (as a whole?

It all depends, many series get worse after the original film but some others maintain some level of quality even after many films. Everyone should check out "Deathwish 3"- it is insanely entertaining and bad.

    if it's good it's good
    if it sucks, it sucks

if Rocky stopped at three we would never have Rocky 4!!

and if James Bond stopped at three, we would have missed a shitload of awesome cinema

I'm going to need a Netflix subscription in about 4-6 months when all these summer movies come out on DVD...

It really depends on the movie. Sometimes several installments are necessary in order to tell a story without sacrificing too many plot elements. These are usually ok. Sometimes, sequels are made because fans want more. These are generally ok too.
