What do people think? Are you looking forward to November when the legislation comes into effect or do you believe the claims that it we're heading towards "Faliraki UK"?
I think they've left it too late in the UK. Things would have been much better if they'd done this 15 years ago. It could have been a good thing. Now I think it does have the possibility of making things worse. I will just sit here saying 'I'm glad I don't live there any more' and just hope I never have to move back.
I see nothing but Hell coming out of this.. Walking through town and people stumbling about pissed as farts causing trouble .. I hate drunks full stop! I am in no way impressed by this
I don't see it making a big difference. Except 11pm-11 30 is gonna be a much safer time to walk around town centres. As I've said before, I don't like having my freedom restricted because of a few stupid idiots who think that a good night out is a pint and a fight.
As i can legaly buy 67890 cases of stella at normal regular hours of the day.. i would not imagine this new 24 hour licence will make a blind bit of difference .. The 67890 might make me blind though ..
As I can get drunk for 50 cents in Portugal I don't really care what happens in the UK. But I do often feel sorry for anyone who lives there.
More rapes, more muggings, more crime and pressure on the police, thats all this si going to lead to.
I think it's pretty obvious that chaos will try and ensue from the change to the law, but I think the reasoning is that it will eventually ease the madness at closing time. Plus it is a liberalisation of our society, not a thing I complain about.
i agree with the poster who said they should have done this way earlier....the existance of the binge drinking culture might have an effect on the success of this innitiative...but theres a possibility that people actually start learning "how to drink like civilised human beings" like they do in places where the laws on drinking are much more relaxed... funny i was in spain not long ago, enjoying a cold cana of beer (thats like 1/2 litre) at 2am and everyone was doing the same... i did not see any drink related fight or anything of the sort while i was away..... mind you, i'm only talking about the locals, cos oh boy, i felt a bit sorry for some english tourists i saw, it was like they were locked in a cage for 20 years and just got out to drink everything that was in sight. it was sad, but funny hahaha
i think it will be better, it will make jobs for the unemployed, as long as its controlled than yeah go for it. like if you were at a mates drinking then shit no beer left, i know lets go to the pub. yep go for it.
I hate the term 'bing drinking' to 'binge drink' you have to have drunk about 1.5 pints every day for 7 days.. or something meaningless like that. *checks it out* Men should drink no more than 21 units of alcohol per week Women should drink no more than 14 units of alcohol per week One unit of alcohol is half a pint of beer or a small glass of wine Binge drinking is classed as consuming more than 10 units of alcohol in a single session for men and seven units for women If you can manage to drink past say 12.30pm [during the week] then i think cheap bottles of cider are underneath the park bench you have now been resorted to sleep on.. If people treat every night like a Friday or saturday night then clearly the shit will hit the fan within there worlds .. People drink as long as they like anyway.. i wonder how many people drink in there homes even before they venture out on a 'night out'. "how to drink like civilised human beings" I don't drink like a civilised human being.. but i appreciate this fact and don't cause any harm to any one.. It is not when people stop drinking to 'bing drinking' proportions , it is when people stop being so selfish and inflicting there bad habits on the rest of society.. drink as much as you like when you like.. just please i don't want to be a victim of your abuse.
I think 24 hour licensing is a great idea, not just because it means i can go to the pub at whatever time (cause i'm always late!!) but cause i think it will reduce the amount of violence. - 11 to 11.30 is a dangerous time to be out in city centres because the drunks are getting thrown out when all they wanna do is keep drinking!!! so this makes them angry and so violence can occur. - On the one hand people will hopefully leave when they feel they've had enough, instead of just staying till closing time to get their moneys worth. - The people who are out to get completely off their faces can do so without getting thrown out before they're ready and so will be so drunk they couldn't be violent anyway. - The arguement is that the times people leave will be more staggered meaning police will have to on alert for longer, but if these times are staggered there are less people around at one time so less violence should happen, surely? If people go out looking for a fight no matter what time they leave the pub they'll cause trouble, atleast they'd be less people around to fight with!! Personally i think it's a great idea, i hate going to the pub at 10 cause i had to work late then have to leave at 11.30 when i've barely had time to talk to my friends, its annoying. I think they'll be some trouble at first as it'll be such a novelty people will go mad and stay in the pub for 24 hours, but once it becomes the norm it''ll just mean more convienient times to go out and less competition for taxes afterwards! which sounds grand to me
I with happyhippysoldier dude, i will also eat my own nipples!!!! but if we are wrong can i atleast put ketchup on them first?
awww man, then i withdraw my offer. Guess i'll have to eat my hat instead, how unoriginal Maybe i could eat a full ketchup bottle thus bypassing the no condiment rule? Though it'd have to be a plastic one, glass plays havoc with ma tum! Anywhoo i'll stop filling up your poll thread with my silly babbling, sorry happy hippy soldier fella
Well... as somebody who lives in "England's Ibiza" (copywright tabloid scum) I have real concerns about this development... The government seems to be under the illusion that freeing up the licensing restrictions will suddenly have a magical maturing influence upon the nation's attitude towards alcohol... what utter bollocks... people will not suddenly think "my goodness, I will no longer have to drink myself into twatish oblivion because the pub will close at 11.00, and the nightclub that I will move onto to get even more twatted will close at 1.00... no, I can now pace my alcohol drinking to healthy levels"... no... they will drink until they fall over and puke and piss their pants and be unable to prevent thenselves from sleeping in their own shit... and I imagine it will happen in my front garden... ah, nothing like waking up at 2.00 in the morning to the sound of somebody pissing against my front gate... Oh no... there are no easy solutions here my friends in the government!... no, you have to change the entire culture of alcohol consumption... that means stopping the joys of "seven billion drinks for the price of one" drinks promotions... it means changing the places where people drink from our current vogue for australian style "vertical drinking" establishments (ie without seats) to more continental cafe style pubs... it means more time and money being spent on alcohol education from an earlier age than at present... It will take decades to get this country out of the sorry shit state that it has got itself into regarding alcohol... I'm now going to have another glass of red wine... thank you... Fly...
I'm still not convinced. There are too many factors involved than I can compute with my meagre "human" brain.
