What does *long* hike mean to you? Or if anyone else wants to answer the same question. I'm just wondering. I can't decide what's long.
"long hike" probably kind of varies, depending on what i'm feeling at the time. but i would think it would have to be at least a couple hours. a long walk would probably be anything over an hour though. maybe even less if it's a matter of walking somewhere because i don't have transportation.
Yes, but if its longer than an hour its not a stroll anymore. Unless of course one would walk really slow... Then its better determined by the distance rather than the time i guess
A long hike to me would be anything 4+ miles. Or maybe 3+, depending on the elevation. If you're hiking up a mountain with a lot of switchbacks, 3 miles will feel like much longer
hmm, i have to disagree. i think the difference between the three is more in quality than length. a walk takes place on a sidewalk or road or something similar. a hike is on a trail or other undeveloped surface. and a stroll is either a walk or a hike, but done slowly with no destination or goal in mind.
well some people do exaggerate their activities. i know a guy who "works out" by walking on a treadmill for 30 minutes.
Disagree. I walked across the Isle of Wight, incorporating quite a lot of "sidewalks" (pavements : P), and it was definitely a hike because I had a big heavy bag and it took about ten hours.
^ i work very hard to avoid carrying things around, so i never thought to incorporate baggage into the definition.
Well I was along way from home and had to bring a tent. Like, you hike to the North Pole... maybe it automatically becomes a hike if you're carrying things you need to survive.
