If you have not already heard something or seen something about the 2012 predictions made by various people then its very simple to understand - there is a group of people who believe that in 2012 something very important/major is going to happen to mankind and the earth/space/universe- from what I understand everything is going to be alighned within space and something like a mircle or some destruction is going to happen to the earth .....not just a few car bombs or a few people seeing jesus; more like half the world will explode; aliens will appear that the whole world will see or another reality will spin into action .. these are just examples of the grand scale we are talking about here ....

Various people have written books; created documentarys; given lecturers on 2012 and have made vast amounts of people believe in such a thing while also accumulated vasts amounts of money from these predictions

As you know - there has been various predictions over the past centurys and various people have profitted from events which did not happen ...

I would like to say without saying I believe or don't believe in these future events that if 2013 comes and nothing major has happened(e.g like these people have predicted) that all the money they have accumulated from these predictions be taken away from them and given to charity - OR if they don't agree to that; some other form of punishment like being unable to write another book; create another documentary or such

what are your thoughts on this matter?

    Here is my opinion....

Honestly, I'm kind of along the same line of belief and have seen that myself with what you've said. Afterall- fear is a major controlling factor in life unfortunately. I kind of think people are entertained by it because it releases a different kind of chemical in the brain and can almost become addicted to the feeling of being in fear. However, I cannot say one way or the other completely either because the future hasn't happened yet. Predicting the future is very risque but has a very popular following. Either it's right on or it's completely off which still shows that a lot of actions and outcomes are unknown and highly depends on how much you want to believe something will happen. The mind is very powerful. If anyone has any knowledge of the "butterfly effect" it proves a statement of really not knowing what will happen because outcomes are vastly effected constantly.

Overall I personally don't know. I live my life each day because I feel like I have to.

I think it is a huge load of BS.

I don't think there should be any punishment.
People that buy (quite literally) into this kinda stuff are not forced into it...it is their choice.

A lot of the people that write such books and make such documentaries aren't trying to extort money, imo...they genuinly believe what they say.
But, obviously there are people that cash in on peoples beliefs.

    The keyword you used is extorting; a criminal act - also known as blackmail;

The people buying the books are not suckers ... in the same way that someone dying from a diesease and is told 'you need this $40,000 operation to survive' is not a sucker .. they don't really have a choice in the matter

In the eyes of alot of the people who buy these books its just like why they read the Koran; the Bible etc etc They are forced into believing these douments or otherwise something terrible will happen to them... they are filled with fear from their traditions - its not that they want to buy the books ... its that they HAVE to buy the books or otherwise something terrible will happen

I don't see any special significance for that date. I think too many people are misplacing their faith on an arbitrary date and that can be a bit worrying. We are going to have a lot of disappointed people on our hands.

Although, I believe something big is going to occur on our horizon. We just don't know when it'll happen. I do believe a lot of chaos will be in our future, just not necessarily on 2012.

so then by your logic anyone that sells bibles or korans should be forced to suffer the same punishment as those that pushed the 2012 hype.

fact is human beings need something to cling to to help them deal with the uncertainties and unsanswered questions of life. be it Jesus,Buddha,Mohammad,Darwin, space aliens, or any other so called "prophet"or "scientific theory".

its something thats been around since the dawn of time. you cant stop people from coming up with this shit,or believing it. its part of human nature.

To be fair, Y2K was people freaking out that worldwide computer systems would collapse, causing society to collapse. Cultures all over the world have predicted that a major event for mankind will happen in 2012, and while I'm not one to buy into end of the world scenarios, this may have some validity not only because of the predictions. The world seems to be a powder keg recently, with global warming, oil conflicts, the middle east, and now economic crisis building up to some eventual climax.

Its also worth noting that pretty much every generation, thinks that the current one is the worst, immoral one of the bunch and will be the last. Whether or not its true this time is hard to say but either way, it is meant to happen and we don't need to worry about anything.

Any one who believes with absolute certainty that the world will not end in 2012 is just as foolish as the one who does.

Anyone who thinks there's a greater chance of the world ending in 2012 than in any other year is just buying into the hype. There's no reason to think anything will happen in 2012. It's possible, but if it happens, it will be a coincidence.

    Why?
