    :cheers2:

I came very close to losing my visa and my teacher's license.

I'm glad that my lesson was less severe than the one you highlighted.

I would have waited three weeks to mention this, as it seems like mentioning it RIGHT after calling someone a marijuana addict is just shitty timing

    beautifully ironic timing

but, still, almost just would have waited three weeks for PR reasons...

Wow! You ran into the one incorruptible cop in Thailand, or were you too drunk to offer a bribe?

They don't care about that sort of thing on the islands you know

How did you find the thai jail cells?

Just how drunk were you? Was it like a fraction over the limit or did you have just no business being behind the wheel?

did you get a fine to go with? here in cali, you have to have two days in, three years probation, classes, and a nice big ol fine of $1729.00 not counting the fees for the classes..

hell we just had a client who got four DUI's in a six month period. He ended up doing 180 days in jail. Lot better than the 16 months in prison.

Do you have to be addicted to alcohol to drive when drunk?

If so, there must be a lot of alcos in the world?

I don't think being addicted has anything to do with it.

I'm just thinking from a public relations perspective, painful timing.

and, to be fair, a lot more people are alcoholics than are capable of\will readily admit it.

I wasn't even THAT drunk, they were just on a crackdown.

The threat of never being able to teach here again did put the reckless stupidity that I had been employing into a much sharper perspective than an acident involving only myself would have.

The cells were dirty, smelly and full of drunks, pretty much the same as anywhere else in the world.

Yes, I spent yesterday in court and immigration after a sleepless night in the cells.

I don't know what system the blow bags use here, but 50 is the limit, I was 127. I drunk a half-bottle of brandy.

Most of the Thais that were there had blown higher than me.

Yes, a 10,000baht fine. That is about equivalent to $250, but to put it in perspective, it is more than the monthly salary of the average Thai, twice my monthly salary when I was a volunteer, but only a third of my monthly salary now that I am working in the private sector.
