Your body isn't a drug it's a machine. You need specific drugs for specific things like a specific kind of fuel that only works in a specific kind of engine or a sandwich.

The most striking thing to me about that video is that the housewife turned out to be stable after all even though she had been conditioned in and around the 40s and 50s.

So leary was kind of right and the fear of it very misplaced. It produced too many new ideas for the previously unstable to handle. Like Richard Nixon

    "there wasn't any me"

"I wish I could talk in technicolor"

    classic, I love it.

except of course the commercial at the end of the video

She responded with grace aplomb and beauty and the reason I say it is striking is because there was something fundamentally right about what had gone on before. So it is not the parent who should be under suspicion but the snotty kids, et all today's politicians.

I would run against an opponent if I thought it would do any good. I look for the good to figure themselves out.
I do not judge him he has his own judge.

My mother was a 50's housewife. I wish someone had given her some acid back then. Things might have been a lot easier for me when I started taking it 2 decades later.

what I like is that her experience was obviously very positive.
Makes you wonder how much preconceptions color a persons experience with psychedelics.
When she took it, there really wasn't the concept of a "bad trip" ingrained into the social psyche yet, so she entered into it completely open to the experience, or so it appears.
Doubt very much if such experiments today would yield the same results.

When I was a kid in the 60's, LSD was put forth by the media as the baddest, scariest, make you jump out the window, substance of the entire drug world.
I remember a movie they showed at school where this girls hotdog she got at the fair, when she applied condiments the mustard and catsup turned into a face and the hotdog began begging her not to eat it, because it had a wife and family....she bit into it anyway and the hotdog started screaming, lol

I know exactly what your saying. And I do think pre-conceptions play a big part.

I find it interesting though to look at studies being done now, both in the UK and the USA where people are being dosed with psilocybin, and in a new study here, LSD (for the first time in 40 years).
Mostly people are having a positive response. Some find healing, some find some kind of mystical or transpersonal state. And they're finding out a lot about the physical effects on the brain. Could be we're on the cusp of a new era. I hope so.

Every individual is different. A "bad trip" is often a manifestation of an existing issue for the person tripping.

My first time I had no idea what I was taking or what to expect. A friend said "open your mouth" and when I did she threw five tabs of blotter in my mouth. I didn't know what it was. We were at Walden Woods just after a snowstorm. It was amazing.

Tripped hundreds of times after that over the next ten years, and in much higher doses. Fun times. I learned a lot. I never had a bad trip myself but saw many others have a hard time, both experienced and new adventurers. You never know. Some people shouldn't mess with the stuff. I suspect even in the 50's there were plenty of people who wouldn't be able to handle having their minds ripped open like that. All it takes is a hint of fear and you can spiral out of control. For my wife, who was well experienced when it came to psychedelics, all it took was something reminding her of her father one night (he abandoned her) and she was out of control. Nothing could console her. It was a rough night.

The mind is a fragile thing.

in my experience, there is no such thing as a "bad trip" just some are more uncomfortable and educational than others.

in a follow up of patients/people who participated in some the early trials almost every single one reported a positive experience and the few who had unpleasant experience reported that in retrospect it was one of the most important and beneficial events in their life.
