have you watched or read the news? foreclosures in vegas are the highest in the nation, casinos are shutting down due to lack of tourism.. unemployments way up.. not a good place to go and start a new i wouldnt think..
I have lived in Vegas for almost 30 years now, and I still cant understand why people want to move here. I would do anything to get out of here. I guess everyone is different though, so let me give you the ups and downs of Las Vegas. Reasons not to move here: 4 months of 100-115 degree temperatures dry and dusty(wreaks havoc on electronics-including stereos, tv's, computers, cars, etc) gang activity always increasing criminal activity-someone kills someone anywhere in the US and they always think they can come and hide in Vegas price of houses-It has come down in the past couple of years after shooting up the previous 5 years, but still too high traffic-this town is terrible. Las Vegas streets and freeways were built for a smaller population, and with 3,000 people a month moving here, the roads just are not big enough anymore for the influx of people that have moved here another aspect of driving here-remember that more than half of the people driving here have had something to drink, so you have more idiots driving under the influence here than anywhere else in the US Ok, enough of the bad reasons. Now, let me see if I can think of any good reasons to move here. Entertainment-best entertainment anywhere. More concerts and shows than anywhere in the US Prices of groceries are decent compared to other places Some of the best restaurants anywhere Can pig out for cheap at buffets, lol
Not correct. We do have an average rainfall of 4.13 inches, yet, that still aint much. And yes, many times much of that will fall in a few large thunderstorms, and this town has no drainage, and the ground is so hard and heat baked that the water just runs off instead of soaking in.
And this could be said for many places, yet we do have stores and construction and everything any other cities have, so there is plenty for the under 21 to work at.
I moved here when I was 15. For money, during the weekends and during summer vacation, I would collect golf balls in the early morning at local courses and then sell them for 10 cents each, 25 cents if they were Titelists. Made decent money at that. Once out of high school, I worked at a self serve gas station in one of them little bullet proof booths. Oh yeah, they dont have those things anymore. Anyway, I did that for 4 years until I was 21. That gave me heavy cash handling experience which enabled me to get a job as a cage cashier. I did that for 3 years during the day while playing guitar in a band at night. I then got tired of the casinos, and the casino I was working at closed down. So I started working for Manpower, a temporary agency. Anytime I was sent out on a job, I would tell the client in the future to call me directly instead of calling Manpower. See, the client would pay Manpower 12 dollars an hour, and I would get half that while Manpower would get the other half. So instead, I told them to call me directly and pay me 10 an hour, which would save them 2 dollars per hour. Of course, I would no longer be covered by insurance, so some people did not go for it, but most did, and soon, I had so much work coming my way that I had to pick and choose what I wanted and turn some people down. I did that for 6 years until I became an independent contractor for the US Government, another job I got indirectly through Manpower. For the next 10 years, I traveled all across the Western US and I worked an average of 80-90 hours per week. At age 40 I retired. So moving to Vegas was a good thing for me, but damn, I want out of here. I just cant afford to leave though because the house I own has liens on it incurred from my parents illnesses and subsequent deaths many years ago, and if I sell the house, those liens become due, and I wont get anything from the sale of the house.
Best things about LV: free parking and lots of public bathrooms in every casino-my partner and i lived in LA a while ago and could find neither of these things, and when you're mostly broke and homeless, those things are important-but we had no trouble finding good friends right away, thru craigslist or the bars (other good thing-so cheap to drink here-at least at the gay bars we go to, we have 3 nights a week we can drink for free)-but dont if you're only 18...
