These guys started the first wave of the San Francisco acid scene!!! The lead vocal, guitarsit/songwriter Rocky Erikson should have just as much credit as Jerry Garcia, Marty Balin, Syd Barret or pretty much anyone..... check him out this is the earliest example of psychedelic rock!!

I'm a huge fan of 13th Floor Elevators. I could listen to their 'Psychedelic Sounds' album over and over. It always suprises me when 60's psychedelic fans haven't heard of them.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHH, no-one's heard of 'em but me and a bunch of other "old farts" here on the site:)......I was diggin' Roky and the boys ever since the dawn of psychedelia and the good 'ol NO FRILLS TX psyched out soundZ!!...along with another amazing psych band called Moving Sidewalks, later to be known as ZZ Top. Unfortunately, Roky and the band have always been ripped off by the record industry due to unpaid royalties with the excuse that Roky was "crazy" and always psyched out.....bummer excuse!!
    PSYCHEDELIA IS IN WITH TYME.

dood he is basically crazy, Ive seen recent interviews in fact he performed a few years ago at a folk festival somewhere in the states.... he is basically child like now, his older brother (a wealthy lawyer) takes care of him, he is non functional

I bought their box set "Sign of the 3-Eyed Men", and I think you can still get at http://www.internationalartistsrecords.com/

The copies are going fast, though. There's less than 500 left now, and they aren't making any more, and the newly remastered albums aren't available separately yet.

This and The Beatles' box sets are definitely the biggest remasters of 2009. It has the first two albums in original mono and brand new stereo remixes with a more prominent jug. The stereo version of "Psychedelic Sounds of..." is arranged according to the original tracklisting the band wanted.

And then there's the third album, unreleased sessions and live material. All in the best available quality, 10 total discs and bonus tracks on each one.

Still have yet to listen to all of it.

I really dig them, they have some great tunes. Slip Inside This House is probably one of the most underrated song of all time, the lyrics are incredible. has anyone heard any of Roky's solo work?

he's got one tune, night of the Vampire thats pretty good:

His solo work is quite interesting. He's released many albums over the years. There is a google groups site dedicated to the Texas Psychedelic scene, featuring Roky and the 13th Floor Elevators, among others.

I got to see Roky play a short set at Threadgill's in Austin, 5 years ago. He sounded great!
