Soooooo....the rule is don't jerk off a guy who is beating up your husband? The bible is so confusing....
Deuteronomy is the fifth book of the Old Testament. All the old Hebrew law of the Old Testament was thrown out when Jesus came along. Let's not give in to shock value It is confusing when purposely used out of context to give a certain appearance. I'm not saying Neuroptican did this, but many here do to get a certain reaction out of people.
Well, that's what they say. Although, when homosexuality comes into question Leviticus in the OT is always dragged back up.
Good point. Many Christians (not all of course) and non-Christians seem to use certain verses when desirable, then say others are irrelevant when also desirable.
That's what I've noticed too. I asked about it on a forum once, never actually got a valid answer. Only, it wasn't a light decision as to which laws should remain today, but thought over long and hard. But, anything which tells me that someone should be killed, or have their hand cut off - isn't for me.
Nor does it seem like a god who supposedly created everyone as 'his' children would want them to kill one another. Yet many christians, here included, seem to think that god sometimes allows people to kill in his name. Although I don't necessarily ascribe my beliefs to any specific idea of god, it seems odd to me that the god of christian definition would want his children to kill each other.
I guess so, but when you look back at the OT - a lot of horrible acts were committed by the 'word of God'; He was the one saying that people should be killed, so it isn't too far a stretch to think that we can kill each other nowadays in His name.
I also don't think god would want everybody having 18 kids just because they can...leaving all responsibility for their actions up to him.
I don't know about Christianity, but obviously that is pretty abundant already within other religious groups.
In my opinion people who kill others and claim it is in the name of god, or "God's word," are simply confused as to the real nature of god. I think that great confusion over what god is and says has gone on for thousands of years, which has led people to attribute all sorts of things to god. There is so much confusion surrounding everything to do with the bible and many of the pivotal people and things in it that the waters have been muddied beyond any sort of baptismal worthy cleansing.
who gives a shit I won't be living my life by the bible, if I was married and someone was attacking my husband I wouldn't grab their genitals id slice them off with a katana. try and fuck with me now.
^^^ Perfect example of things being taken out of context. This is how the bible and those characters in it got so blurred over the past 2000+ years.
There are many verses in the Bible that tell people to kill. Then there was whole populations being killed off by God. Not taken out of context if it is plainly written there in black and white.
one of the ten commandments "You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not acquit anyone who misuses his name." quite clearly, she has been talking smack about me
