100 Great Things About Australia

    Like it says, name 100 things that make Australia a great place! You're welcome to elaborate with a description of each choice too.



    I'll start it off...

    1. The Great Barrier Reef: The largest living structure in the world, 2000 kms along the north east coast of Australia, in the Coral Sea. It contains an enormous diversity of life forms, and is an enormous tourist attraction for Australia. However a number of factors are destroying the reef including global warming, chemical run-off from agriculture, crown-of-thorns starfish, tourism.

    I highly recommend anyone wanting to experience this reef do it soon. It might not be alive a decade from now.

    2. Wet Tropics: Far North Queensland is blessed with the last remains of the 120 million year old virgin rainforest. The remaining forest is disappearing quickly as more of it gets cut down for development. Fortunately some pieces have been declared World Heritage sites, and are protected from development. Never the less as civilization encroaches upon these protected areas, the wildlife suffers and in the case of the endangered Cassowary, it's only a matter of time before extinction.

    3. Beaches, Beaches, Beaches: If you like the beach, Australia is your paradise. With thousands of kilometers of beaches, you can easily find one to suit your taste. Like lots of surf, lots of glistening bodies tanning, lots of parties on the beach? You can find that, no problem. Looking for a pristine deserted beach where the only footprints in the sand are the ones you make? Lots of those, too.

    20. Confest. Did not make it there this year but I love floating around in the mudbath and walking around nude there.

    21. The high country of of NSW/ Victoria. The bushtracks between Tawonga to Mitta Mitta and Omeo to Corryong are two of my favourite drives. Both take a while and best done outside of Winter.
