Try basing yourself in coolangatta/tweedheads, the area is nice and laid-back, very surfy and all those beautiful beaches like snapper and rainbow...
Tweed Heads and Northern NSW is a beautiful area to explore, try lennox head and snapper rocks for surfing, they are my favourites, much better...
