I've always wanted to learn to draw, but I seriously lack the attention to detail that's needed. Is that something I can learn and get used to, or is drawing pretty much out for me? Be completely honest.
You can learn but it takes lots of practice. The main thing to focus on is proportions. Learning to detail is rather easy, most people have trouble consistently nailing correct proportions (and perspective). It's generally best to sit down and think about what you are going to draw, to plan out how it will look in your head, and then begin, taking it one line/shading area at a time.
why not learn? take a class cuz you'll learn terminology, and how to use your eyes more/better. and it'll help being forced to sit down to work on drawing which is good motivation cuz if you just do it freelance you'll procrastinate, get distracted, or get discouraged.
That's one of the things I'll have to work on, just sitting down and take it one step at a time. I usually want things done quickly, but it's going to take practice.
Definitely. I used to think forcing myself would make me run from it, but I think you're right that it will be good motivation. I probably will end up taking a class. Thanks for the advice!
I strongly second the suggestion of taking a class. Most people enter drawing classes with the expectation of learning some secret that will turn them into a fabulous artist, but the true benefit of art education is learning how to use your eyes.
