So I want to live away from society one day, in a commune with about 10 or so like-minded people. How does one do it? Like, is it possible to have no income? If not, what does one do about money when they live in an isolated place? I don't want to live that remotely, just somewhere with enough space to grow my own food.

Seek out local communes, ecovillages and egalitarian communities.

Learn first hand the dynamics of a community, their means of supporting themselves, and everything in between.

It is no small undertaking, especially if your looking to leave society and live off the grid.

Doing something like that is akin to reinventing the wheel. Your creating your own society, which is composed of alot of complex factors that are normally hidden from us when we live on the grid.

Water procurement, food and shelter. Simple if your squatting on land. Stealth also is a factor for squatting.

Taxes, income, building codes, and other bureaucratic garbage if your looking to own land.

Learn all you can first hand by volunteering and interning. What you should learn is dependent on what you envision your community.

Learning to live and communicate with people is the greatest skill you can have.
