Great song! Gets kind of repetitive when you listen to it often enough, but the feeling, being in the moment, the power that was infused with that song... Definitely one of the most memorable moments of Woodstock '69. For me anyways.

I try to stray from the mainstream. Get angry if you want, but I sort of consider Jimi, Janis and others as 70s mainstream. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE me some Hendrix, hands down one of the greatest musicians of all time, but people talk about it and it's played so much, I just want something different sometimes. Guess I'm just rambling by now, but Richie Havens... he freakin' rocks!

There's no other recording of "Freedom" (that I know of) that matches up to the spirit and groove of this tune.

PS - can't remember if it's Woodstock or Monterey Pop (I'm a horrible hippie, I know lol!), but those Middle Eastern cats put on a fantastic show too!
