Prehistoric. It will always fascinate me that firsthand accounts exist of animals that haven't roamed this world in thousands of years. (depiction of extinct cave bear)

I always wanted to post this somewhere. I think I'll post it in this thread : "But since noboby can decide on a favorite year, I'd like to propose a toast to my favorite minute... That last year isn't important, next year isn't important. But what is important is what is happening now." —Maude (Aunt Polly), Nostalgia Party, Episode 60, Season 14, Original air date: December 30, 1974.
Bad sound quality. This YT channel has lot of nostalgic comedyshows from the US, good quality https://www.youtube.com/@thenormanleareffect I am to young(1973) to know Maude and i dont know if it ever aired in NL. I do remember all lot of reruns from all in the family Mzzls
I have a weird fascination with the United States in the 1950s. Yes, the fashion was beyond cute and mid-century design and architecture are so cool, but it was such a weird time. Over-romanticized by people who think we should go back to the way it was, but if you were anything other than a straight white man, it was a pretty oppressive time. Homosexuals were jailed, senators ruined lives, Jim Crow was the law of the land in the American South, and any progress in women's liberation made in wartime factories in the 40s was stamped out by a cultural movement to force women back into the kitchen. Conservative conformity was used to showcase American freedom and liberty. Five years after WWII, we were back on the battlefield. Suburbia and the lifestyle it offered exploded into the mainstream a generation after most Americans lived on farms or in small towns. The economy soared as Europe and Asia laid in ruins, providing the necessary means for the rise of the American teenager and the rebellious culture that inevitably followed. I feel like it's as far back in time as a young person today could go, and still recognize the world. If the Industrial Revolution marked the beginning of modern America, the 1950s marked the beginning of post-modern America. I'm a nerd
