Firestorm erupting over the hiring of Ronna McDaniel at NBC.

I am used to viewing Fox News employees: Juan Williams, Alan Combs, Harold Ford and Jessica Tarlov who are expected to provide contrast to the right wing talking points on Fox. They seem to get air-time and respect at Fox.
Why is the Ronna McDaniel hiring so controversial amongst the employees of NBC ?

Because she pushed all of trumps bullshit about a "stolen" election and was in favor of the phony elector scheme pushed by the likes of Bannon, et al.

I don't quite understand the need to have these contrasting viewpoints? How about just reporting the news like in the old days? IMO way too much opinionating going on and every network is guilty of it now.

There was a time when the networks abided by something called "Equal Time", where every opinion was always countered by an opposing opinion. That would occur after the regular newscast and those would be the ONLY opinions offered on a controversial or political issue. Sure they had special debate shows on, usually on a Sunday.

Then came Fox News and there was no more Equal Time. So to claim now that Fox news suddenly is allowing the otherside to be heard, it ain't happening during their top slots, and if they do let someone on, they're usually a milktoast, who can't really counter effectively.

Even the few moderate voices that finally quit Fox due to the Corporate control, were in no way liberals, just portrayed that way relative to the rightwing hardliners they usually have on.

I just gave up reading anything by Fox "news "------their articles / discussions are always heavily slanted to the right and are usually bullshit. I watch MSNBC and Free Speech TV with Randy Rhodes. Both are left wing and spend much time on how hypocritical and anti american the right / republicans are. :sunglasses: I have not found them to be liars.

NBC should have kept her on . It would have been an excellent opportunity to grill her on her beliefs, gain information on the inner workings of the republican party and of course reveal how much the party is in thrall to a childish , demented liar.

Hired and fired, almost as fast as Don Lemon and Musk. Makes one's head spin a bit.

I don't think that was the reason they hired her, nor how her tenure would've played out. Why hire a known liar and traitor to democracy?

You are right about those points. On Fox: The Five, the Liberal correspondents have been compared to The Washington Generals, a team that played against The Harlem Globetrotters. The Conservative hosts on The Five, all have thier own shows while the Liberals are fill-ins. Yet ,The Liberal correspondents do have an effect on me. Rembering Allen B. Combs as a WABC AM Radio DJ during my youth, was always open to anything he said. Juan Williams has a great back story, being fired by MSNBC for " wandering off the ranch". it provides Williams with extra gravitas and creditability. Remembering Ex Tenn. Dem. Senator Harold Ford as a guest on Don Imus. But just who could go up against the glamorous, sexy, domineering Judge Jeanine Piro? who delivers like the prosecutor she is.

Remembering regular visitors on the Dom Imus in the morning radio show included Chris Matthews, Tim Russert and Andrea Mitchell. these were the years whem Imus endorsed John Kerry for President. Imus would always interrogate Andrea Mitchell for her husband, Dr. Greenspan's take on the economy and interest rates, She never spilled. These interactions lent a sense of credibility and cordially to the shows. Partisan hosts show more restraint with opposition hosts sitting next to them. It helps to avoid lawsuits, gain viewers, advertising dollars, and perhaps avoid regulatory jeremaids.

The View, also has this structure. Yet I remember clearly the response of Joy Behar to the East Palestine Ohio train derailment where she expressed on TV that the residents of Ohio's Mahoning valley voted for Trump and a regime of deregulation, so the train derailment was the reward ( or words to that effect)
With the lack of a timely statement from our President on the accident, this statement stood as the Democratic response.

Now, incumbent Ohio Senator Sherood Brown is facing a tough re-election campagain Mahoning Valley residents will remember, Democrats will wish that opposition co-hosts on The View had inspired more restraint on Joy Behar.
