We are HUGE boating peeps, anyone else on here take there boats out for the whole weekend every weekend?
Kind of wish I did. I love boating. I've been seriously eyeing this really nice 31 foot Ranger Tug. It looks like it has everything I could want to spend not only a weekend, but maybe longer on the waterways.
Many years ago we lived in Potosi Mo. One of our favorite pastimes was canoeing and swimming in the clear, blue Ozark streams. Wish we could go back and repeat the experience. And a common event happened to the canoe in front of us one day…a very large Cottonmouth dropped from a tree into the canoe. All passengers safely abandoned ship. And one night I was gigging suckers with some work companions in the very swimming hole I had been swimming in with my family earlier in the day and the stream turned out to have at least 3 irritated Cottonmouths in it!
I've been told that if I do get a boat, I have to do the Great Loop at least once in my life. It definitely sounds like something to shoot for.
Checkout my thread new project. Kinda started dreaming of this a couple yrs Prior to posting. As i stumbled online on shawnee gathering. In southern ill in oct. This being abt 04. So this now been 20yrs wow. Is rite on loop as i next stumbled.
I've look at all sort of boats. and Tugs just seemed the most comfortable to me. Then I found out that the AGLCA ranked both Ranger Tugs and Nordic Tugs as 3rd bet choices for the loop. Both Nordic and Ranger had similar specs across the board, I just happen to find the Ranger TUgs more Aesthetically appealing.
Ive been on aglca facebook group awhile. Learned alot there. Trawlers are somewhat similar. an interesting thing abt thing abt em. Is they can be converted to limited sail. If ya leave the ghostnet rigging or whatever it is on. Not that i have a wholotta exp personally. Except an old craboat when really young.
Unfortunately, at the moment, I have to rely on motor driven craft and hope that i don't need sails. I no longer have the upper body strength or manual dexterity to deal with sails.
I have seriously considered living on the water full time. I currently live in California. Lots of coastline here. Marinas along the coast every few miles. And if the neighbors get rowdy or too noisy, just move out beyond the breakwater for a while. That tug has everything I have in my apartment, and more.plus there's a spare head and bunk if I choose to have a guest. It's perfect.
Amazing howmuch livability there is aboard a liveaboard. As well, in some cases boats can be more fuel efficient than landcrawlers. Also with dingies ones yardspaces can be almost as big.
Another plus would be to have a lithium battery system and solar panels installed to run the living areas and save the Volvo inboard and the LP Generator for other more critical systems. If I wanted to upgrade to the 41 footer, that one actually comes with a built-in washer & dryer hidden under the dining table in the salon.
I'm not sure how practical that would be, however, I do know of some small, vertical blade turbines that could fit nicely and provide about 800w or so
