Who would like to help me compile a comprehensive list of people who have given up shoes partly or completely? (I thought it might also help my case with the college) So far I have:

Completely (or as good as):
  • Socrates
  • Cody Lundin – advanced survival expert and star of Duel Survival, has gone barefoot in some of the harshest environments on earth for over 22 years
  • Dr Danniel Howell - Professor of Biology, Liberty University

Partly, or ones I am unsure of:
  • Einstein – did not like to wear shoes and often attended official functions barefoot
  • Rob Bredl the ‘Barefoot Bushman’. Famous documentary film maker. Specialises in crocodiles.
  • Alison O'Neill – better known as ‘The Barefoot Shepherdess’ - leads barefoot walking tours.
  • Wim Holf – ‘The Iceman’ climbed Mount Everest in a pair of shorts, runs barefoot in the Arctic

Other than my spiritual Guru who happens to be an Indian Shaivite (so not that unusual) I know a few musical celebs,

Jim Morrison (The Doors) - Went barefoot before they were famous & The Doors were once told they weren't allowed to play a gig because Jim didn't have any shoes.

Joss Stone & Sandie Shaw. Also Marie Fredriksson , the female part of Roxette.

I'm sure there is loads more.

Sorry, I can't contribute, but I was surprised at some of these names so I did some google research and I found a website where someone called barefooting "pedal nudity" I thought that was worth adding Sorry sorry, please return to discussing the pedally nude celebs

That's weird. I have heard people say that someone's feet were 'naked as the day they were born'. Apparently some people are so completely unused to seeing feet that they find them obscene. :P

Excuse my ignorance but is he that tranny-comic guy? If so that's quite a bizzare picture in my head

I say bare footing is like walking, we all do it sometime.
It is, to me, the default setting.
Shoes are the addition.
I do wear shoes in urban areas. Not as much in open spaces.
But I also dont define myself by what I wear, or don't.

Yes, it is. I don't believe he is doing it in a dress, but can't be certain.

I do believe steve jobs delivered the first order of macs barefoot, and was known to go barefoot in his younger days. I don't know about later.
