Before talking about the errors, did anybody ask who is this dude? No credentials given. Is he a refugee from a mental hospital? Judging from the delivery, that's a distinct possibility, but we don't know. Is that important? Why should anyone believe what he's telling us? He's obviously not a scholar. He doesn't bother to cite his sources. And some of the stuff is laughable--e.g., that when Genesis says Eve was made from Adam's rib, that it was really referring to the splitting of the atom. Adam sounds like atom. Adam also sounds like Atum--enough evidence apparently, without more, for Donahue to jump to the conclusion that the Israelite creation myth in Genesis was borrowed from the Egyptians, even though the particulars are very different. Also rich is the observation that the Egyptian god Amun sounds like 'amen" and that when Jesus allegedly calls himself "the Amen" (He's called that in Re. 3) Jesus is claiming identity with Amun. This will have Bible buffs rolling in the aisles. Is this a satire or what? Donahue alleges that the Bible was "Stolen and copied word for word." From what? The specific sources aren't mentioned. He talks about Krishna, but scholars with good reputations who have studied this stuff, atheists and Christians alike, note the difficulty of separating which came first. Donahue naively assumes that since Hinduism came before Christianity, the Christians must have "copied" the virgin birth from the Hindus. But no sources of Krishna's virgin birth antedate the third century A.D., by which time the possibility that pagan sources were contaminated by Christian ideas. Same with Atis. Same with Mithras. He was originally born from a rock, but by the fourth century it was a virgin rock. And Donahue even gets into the old saw about December 25 being the birthday of other gods. Yes, that's true--because it was believed to mark the winter solstice. But the Christians knew that. Nobody believes that December 25 was the date of Jesus' birth. No one knows when he was born. It's the date Christians chose to commemorate the event--yes, to keep up with the pagan competition. So what really do we gain from listening to an ignorant pseudo-expert free associate about alleged parallels between Christianity and other religions? It's quite possible (I'd say probable) that there were influences both ways, but to speak authoritatively on the subject, we need some better documentation. As for Genesis, Donahue seems to be barking up the wrong culture. Sumerian and Babylonian sources are much more likely, and the Genesis account seems deliberately designed to refute details in the Enuma Elish.
