It has done much to raise public awareness on a lot of issues. I think that's a good starting place.

with almost 7% of Americans convicted felons and 41% of Americans have misdemeanor convictions and the United States leading the world in crime who really cares about their criminal record

On Monday February 13th Occupy Atlanta and Union Allies stormed the AT&T building on West Peachtree street. While 12 of us refused to leave the inside of the building until the purposed 740 layoffs were resended, another group was outside setting up a new occupation in front of the building tents and all. The next day hundreds of Occupiers, Communication Workers of America Union members, Teamsters, Jobs With Justice, and others converged on the Courtyard of the at&t building with the same demand; no layoffs.

Since Monday at&t has made several public statements we wish to address. They claim the jobs in question are no longer needed, that wireless business has declined and this is just a result of new technology.

But the truth is, it currently takes 10 days to get repair service, and they continue to be rated the worse company in customer satisfaction year after year. If they were concerned about their customers, maybe they should think about hiring more technicians instead of letting them go.

AT&T claims they are offering new positions to those affected by these layoffs.

While this may be true, what they don’t tell you is that these new positions are most often at a much lower pay grade, with little or no benefits for the worker. In today’s market, where good jobs are hard to come by, workers are often forced to take these new lower paying jobs in order to survive.

AT&T now claims that they are only laying off 550 workers. That’s news to OA and our allies, it’s good news too, but Occupy Atlanta is prepared to grow our encampment until all layoffs are resended.

AT&T is showing us just how corporate greed works. While they continue to pad their executives’ bank accounts, and spend millions of dollars on campaign contributions to buys laws and legislators to fit their needs, millions of Americans are suffering. In this city alone, foreclosure rates are one of the highest in the nation, unemployment is in the double digits, and close to 10% of the population is homeless.

We can’t afford another layoff. Join us tomorrow at 11:30am and see how the tent Occupation of at&t(675 West Peachtree st) is growing. Communication Workers of America local 3204 President, Walter Andrews and Vice President Edward Barlow will both be on hand for statements.

Occupy Atlanta Calls For National Action Targeting Chase On March 13

We, the occupiers of Glen Iris, are asking everyone locally and nationally to take action in Solidarity with us as we fight Chase Bank. Since this bank is a behemoth, we cannot defeat it only in Atlanta, we need to bring the fight everywhere. We are calling a day of action against Chase on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, to demand a moratorium on foreclosures and evictions. March 13th is the birthday of Jamie Dimon, the CEO of Chase Bank.

JPMorgan Chase, doing business as Chase Bank, through a series of recent mergers and acquisitions has become the largest banking institution in the United States. This expansion has been fueled to a great degree by its extensive investment in the two main subprime mortgage originators, not to mention nearly $25 billion in bailout funds that rewarded the bank for its criminal swindling of millions of American families.

A spotlight has been shined on the nefarious deeds of Chase and other big banks since the birth of the Occupy Wall Street movement. The time has come to take a step further in the struggle. The rich and their mouthpieces roar with outrage at any criticism of those responsible for the economic crisis. Throwing millions of working families out of their homes - is this not class warfare against the 99%? We need to strike back with a show of resistance nationwide.

Chase, the largest bank in America, is an ideal target to focus such a campaign. The Pittman family here in Atlanta has boldly defied intimidation and threats from Chase Bank, as well as the police, in defending their home side by side with hundreds of Occupiers and supporters. Through a unified display of action across the country, by shutting down a Chase Bank branch in your neighborhood, we can demonstrate the power of the people. Join in the national effort against the biggest bank in America: we are taking back our homes and building a future worth fighting for.

They tried to make a big stink about that in Buffalo, Occupy Buffalo just gave the city a 1500$ check as promised to reseed the square.
