Tom's Guitar

Okay, this is my thread about learning to play the guitar.

I'm counting my start date of learning to be June 18th...

It was just shortly after midnight that I 'tuned' the new strings.

I started with this;

http://guitar.about.com/library/blgu...sonarchive.htm

I've been through Lesson One

I've just been running through the chromatic scale, up and down, then through the chords of G, C and D.

Alternating that, I've been banging my fingerstips on any hard surface around...

I also cut myself a pick out of an old plastic soap jug (its fairly heavy). It seems to give me a much more even chord when I strum with it.

And, just as an idea of how serious I am about this (if bruised fingers weren't an indication), I also took the right side arm off my chair, so I can sit in it and hold the guitar properly...

I also started practicing Happy Birthday. It's my daughter's birthday today, but seems she won't be here til next weekend, I have a week to practice it.

Hey cool, I was considering asking here for a good online lesson system....

I have a good feel for left/right hand coordination, I can play violin, and have a good ear, and an understanding of violin that I can't describe and don't understand my self, because I have played my whole life but have NO understanding of musical theory.

So without that theory, picking up my guitar and playing more than single notes proves hard.... and my fingers are fine on a violin with close notes, but frets and the distance between them can prove a problem for me. I need to learn about chords, and how to pick the right ones, etc.

Get used to blistered fingers, they're half the fun

*edit* it's cool enough that I paused flogging molly's tobacco island to listen to you, too

Do you have any prior musical experience? If not, or depending on the instrument, that's really really good for this soon.

The only experience I have is from years and years ago when I memorized the bass guitar for cats in a cradle, and fur elise on the piano... both because I was told I couldn't, both done 100% by memorizing the notes (nothing to do with knowing anything at all)...

As for music theory... I had to ask someone how to read the damn tab for happy birthday.... lol

Considering we have never got along, I question what your point in posting in MY forum to start with was.

However... just because you are a grade A fucking moron who apparently thinks that there is only one place someone can learn guitar (besides happy birthday), doesn't mean shit...

Now fuck off troll.

*applies to all the trolls that I have deleted and will continue to delete from my forum

EDIT: There were 3 posts before this one and 12 after it from Oz and GlenGlen that I deleted. They have both been told multiple times that I don't like them, and they were both specifically told to fuck off out of this (Lost Acres) forum on more then one occasion.

That is the reason this post seems to be so 'out of the blue'...

Honestly, this sounds like solid advice.
