Backpacking Through Europe

Anyone have any experiences backpacking through Europe or any other continents? My roommate and I are seriously considering doing so next summer. That's if we don't end up doing the internships over in South Africa. I'm not 100% sure if I want to do the internship anyway but would still love to backpack regardless.I think I'd much rather do that actually.We're thinking about traveling for about a month or so.My main question right now is, how much money do you think I'd need to save up to survive a whole month.This would all be happening around Late July/Beginning of August since I'm taking Summer classes again.

I'll post one in the Traveling Forum since they might have more experience, but I just wanted some of your advice as well.

Hitched through Europe for just under 4 weeks in August Definietly has the most diversity of cultures and countries. 1000€ would be excellent to have for a month but I managed it on 300€, two of my friends managed it on 0€ and another two had 1000€ between them and we all had enough for food, drugs and drink. Travel was free and accomodation was free. Belgium, Germany, Holland (Rotterdam, Utrecht) Czech, Poland...fuck..just about every country has something great about it Going back to Europe in January for my 18th, starting out in Rotterdam as my sister just moved there.

No way,my sister and uncles live in Rotterdamtoo .How close is it that Amsterdam?I will definitely have to go there Hitching sounds like a cool idea but how safe is it?Lol, I'm sure we'll have a guy or two with us, otherwise I'm sure i'd be a tad bit sketchy.

i believe Rotterdam is right next to A-dam.. maybe look at a map to verify :P

If you have a couple of hundred to spare but we were living on a pretty tight budget, hitching was easy, we had to split in two groups though and just met up at whatever city we were heading for. My friends got a lift with two crazy women that were smuggling a kilo of coke across the Belgian border the crazy bitches were snorting while driving and drinking vodka going about 100mph down the motorway hahahaha they said they made the journey twice a week hahahaha. England was the only place that we couldnt hitch, after 3 hours of retards driving past shouting we said fuck it and got the bus. Bus was a last resort though. In Bruges was the only place we had to get the train, we were drinking the cheapest strongest beer we could find (Amsterdam Maximator, 16% and 1€ a can) tasted like stomach bile and cheap whiskey hahaha. We were way too hungover to hitch so we just got the train to Rotterdam. Holland is a tiny country aswell, the train shouldnt take more than an hour or two to get to anywhere in Holland. Its less than an hour away from Amsterdam but I didnt think much of Amsterdam, its just another tourist trap really. Rotterdam was un-fucking believable though and Utrecht was beautiful. Hitching really isnt a problem (so long as your on good roads and dont mind waiting a bit) It only took us two days to get from Dover to Utrecht which is pretty good and we saw/met some mad cool people and places

I really hope it's not another big plan that ends up not happening.I'll be so disappointed.Eurail sounds expensive as fuck, but may be efficient at times.I mean, it all depends on the amount I have saved up in the end.We have a guide book on how to get around Europe by Eurail and another one on going over there on a budget.It tells you about all the things you need to bring and all the precautions you'll need to take.

Ooo and I totally forgot about festivals!

I had the chance to go to Rotterdam with my dad when I was maybe 8 or 9, but of course I wanted to stay with my cousins for the summer, and play everyday haha....The mind of a child.

over the summer i did a 2 week school trip to paris/spain. lol we certainly weren't hitchhiking, but it wasn't a luxury vacation either. do NOT get a hotel in paris. the are super expensive for absolute shit... it was 80 euros a night for a 2 star hotel... and their 2 star is not the same as an american 2 star mind you. if you're in spain, definitely go to barcelona (well, where we stayed it was like a half hour outside the city). imo, it was the most fun. the beach is beautiful and there's a shit ton of friendly germans

That's why they have hostels unleesss we wanted to spoil ourselves the last day.
