Default corny plan?

what do you think about corn=fuel for an attempt at reducing oil consumption and dependency?....providing you even care...do you?

I think that it is just like finding another forest to burn to keep the same fire going. Yes, it can be a viable source of gas, but it doesn't fix the problem of excessive use. Also, it creates problems with the food supply and requires land, water, energy, and pesticides to produce.

Essentially, its another way people justify their excessive consumerism by claiming its earth friendly. What we really need is a focus on gas saving technology, a sensible alternative to the private car in cities, and a focus on conservation of resources.

The resulting upward pressure on world corn prices is devastating to poor countries.

not a problem my friend.

i always find that by taking time to point others in the right direction i inevitably learn a bit more on a subject..

as one who has been environmentally aware for a very long time it disturbs me greatly to see the government and corporate america take such a leading role in "the greening of america".

these people will always put themselves before mother earth and we the common people.. there is always a hidden agenda..

i feel that it is a "half baked" idea.... the corn we would be using for fuel should be used for feed our overpopulated world. we are running into a food shortage... we need all the food we can get.

Let me talk from the farms point of veiw. I think it is a good start on finding other ways besides using oil. It does take alot of man power and ethenal plants to get it out. But for now it is a good start till we can make a better easyer and cheaper fuels. As a farmer I need my deisel tractors and i need gas to run my pickups and i cant use a litle prease (sp) to take my cows or crops to market now can I. It has raised our prices from $1.50 a bushell to $2.50 to $3.00 a bushell for corn but you have to realize that the price of corn has been the same price since the 1950's i has went up and spiked a little then it always comes back down. But our input cost are always going up. Last year when corn was up to 7 or 8 bucks a bushell all the seed dealers and fertalizer dealers shot there prices up right with it. well now corn price came back down to 2 bucks but this years inputs stayed up just like it was 7 bucks, so whos maken the money here? And to all you who say that we should take the corn to feed it to other countrys , we have enuf corn here in the usa to do both. I think we should start looking at america and seeing what we can do to help out our own people instead of woring about the rest of the world first when do we come first.
